Fixing Black Screen Issue on Hackintosh Boot (OpenCore) with Whiskey Lake-U

Guide:

  1. Check Config.plist Settings: Ensure that your Config.plist settings are configured correctly for your hardware. Pay close attention to ACPI, DeviceProperties, and Kernel sections, making sure they match your laptop's specifications.

  2. Framebuffer Patching: Verify that you have applied the correct framebuffer patches for Intel UHD Graphics 620 (Whiskey Lake-U GT2). Double-check the AAPL, ig-platform-id, and device-id values in the DeviceProperties section.

  3. Boot Arguments: Experiment with different boot arguments in your Config.plist. Try adding -v for verbose mode to diagnose the issue or -igfxmlr to enable Intel Graphics Fixup.

  4. Kexts and Drivers: Ensure that you have the necessary kexts (like WhateverGreen, Lilu, and AppleALC) and drivers (like HFSPlus, OpenRuntime, and OpenCanopy) in your EFI folder. Verify that they are up to date and compatible with your macOS version.

  5. USB Port Configuration: If your USB ports are set to internal, consider remapping them temporarily to see if the issue persists. Sometimes, internal USB settings can cause booting problems.

  6. ACPI Patching: Review your ACPI patches to ensure they are correctly applied. Incorrect ACPI patches can lead to booting issues.

  7. BIOS Settings: Check your laptop's BIOS settings and ensure that they are configured correctly for Hackintosh compatibility. Common settings to review include VT-d, Secure Boot, and SATA mode.

  8. Kernel Extensions: Avoid unnecessary kernel extensions that might conflict with macOS. Disable or remove any third-party kexts that are not essential for booting.

  9. Testing: Try booting with different configurations, such as with and without ACPI patches, different framebuffer patching settings, or booting with a minimal set of kexts to isolate the issue.

  10. Community Resources: Utilize online forums and communities dedicated to Hackintoshing. Others may have encountered similar issues and can offer valuable insights or solutions.

  11. Consult Documentation: Refer to official OpenCore documentation and guides for troubleshooting tips specific to your scenario. OpenCore's documentation is comprehensive and regularly updated.

  12. Seek Assistance: If you're unable to resolve the issue on your own, consider seeking assistance from experienced members of the Hackintosh community or online forums. Provide detailed information about your hardware and the steps you've taken so far for better assistance.
