iATKOS L2 Hardware Compatibility

Hardware Compatibility Information of iATKOS L2 (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2):

CPU:
- Intel CoreDuo and newer processors are supported.
>> Ivy Bridge CPUs are not supported (Core i3, i5, i7 3xxx) <<
CoreDuo / Atom / Core2Duo / Core2Quad / 1st and 2nd Generation Core i3, i5, i7 / Xeon 3xxx, 5xxx, 6xxx, 7xxx

- AMD CPUs can not be supported. Maybe another release, maybe another lifetime.

Motherboard:
- Please read with attention and do not continuously ask questions about your motherboard compatibility.

- Simply, chipsets from 945G to C606 are supported. Common chips are 945, 965, 975, P35, P43, P45, P55, G31, G41, G43, X58, H61, HM65, HM67, H67, P67, Z68, Z77, X79, C602 and C606.

- Besides the main chipset model, a motherboard has many components. Every component itself may or may not be compatible and even may be problematic for Lion. Also, BIOS of the motherboard may be problematic to run Lion. Because of these reasons, some motherboards will not be able to run this OS easily, some of them will need hard efforts in order to make it partially work and some of them will never run it.

GPU:
- Intel Graphics HD 3000, GMA X3100, GMA950 is supported, the rest are not. This means that Intel HD 4000, Intel HD 2000, Intel HD 2500, Intel HD and GMA900 is not supported.

- nvidia vga cards from G70 core to GF119 (fermi series) are supported on 10.7.2 (G70, G71, G72, G73, G84, G86, G92, G94, G96, G98, C79, GT200, GT215, GT216, GT218, GF100, GF104, GF106, GF108, GF110, GF114, GF116, GF119).
This does not mean that all of them will work of course, but most of them will work with iATKOS L2.
Some of them will work with issues and some of them may not even work. You will have to try and see it yourself.

Simply, nvidia 7xxx / 8xxx / 9xxx / 1xx / 2xx / 3xx / 4xx / 5xx and some of the fermi 6xx cards are supported.

- ATI HD 7xxx is not supported. Most of the ATI HD 6xxx/5xxx/4xxx cards work with modified drivers and the users will have to take the additional steps to use such cards after installation.

RAM:
- Recommended minimum amount of RAM is 1GB.

Disk Space:
- Recommended minimum amount of disk space for installation is 15GB.

iATKOS L1 and L2: Migration Assistant Issue [ FIX IT ]

This is an easy way about how to fix Migration Assistant to transfer your Account from Hackintosh to Mac, you will notice that your hackintosh won’t be able to boot after it. This happens due to OSX messing up some file so bootloader can’t boot it.
So, if it happened you need to fix it, with help of another OSX copy on your PC.
A fix for single file with name “filename” is:
sudo su
cd folder_of_file
rm .SM.gul.filename
cp filename filename_
rm filename
mv filename_ filename
And the files you need to fix are(* is a wild card):
/*.aml
/mach_kernel
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist
/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist

iATKOS L2: filevault2 security issue [ FIX IT ]

This article describes an issue about Apple’s FileVault 2 technology and  Mac OS X 10.7.2 update. Prior versions of FileVault 2 in Mac OS X 10.7.1 and 10.7.0 do not exhibit this behavior.
- Here is compiled (from sources) 10.7.2 kernel and a source patch
 - By default this kernel forbids booting into single-user-mode for everyone, if firevault 2  protection is enabled.
- But you can allow one user (e.g. admin or yourself) to boot system to single-user-mode.to do this, boot into osx typing password for that account at efi login screen.
Then run this command:ioreg -l -w0 -p IODeviceTree | grep efilogin-unlock-ident
you will get result like:
| | “efilogin-unlock-ident” = <"4B012BC6-A948-2893-3454-B345307B8234">
copy the value – 4B012BC6-A948-2893-3454-B345307B8234
And insert it into /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist under name suallow, just like in example bellow:

Kernel Flags
suallow=4B012BC6-A948-2893-3454-B345307B8234

So, now only the user you choosed can boot single user mode when FV2 enabled, and nobody else.
Now your files can be almost fully secured.

Hackintosh on a Dell Studio XPS [Retail install GUIDE]

I've tried using EmpireEFI as well as installing OS X from a USB CD drive, but was screwed over by the infamous "still waiting for root device" error, I'd imagine this is because of the 435MT model I have using Jmicron; though I am not sure.

On my fantastic and terrible journey to get OS X working on my 435MT I have realized that the parts Dell used in this series greatly varied; so this guide is meant for people who can't get Empire EFI working, and have the Radeon 4850 435MT model.

What you need:
- An 8G USB stick
- Retail Snow Leopard (10A432)
- Myhack installer
- VoodooHDA.kext (for sound.)
- Modded Radeon4800controller.kext
- Netkas Radeon drivers
- EVOenabler.kext
- OSX 10.6.1 and 10.6.2 update
- An already working hackintosh
- iAtkosv7i / Working Hackintosh or regular Mac. (for USB preparation)
- Kext utility

Installation

1) Preparing your USB stick. (Prasys did a wonderful guide on this that explains in greater depth)

I formatted my USB stick under GUID in disk utility, after doing that I restored the OSX image to it and applied myhack with the following settings:

2) Restart your computer and boot onto your install partition with -x -v flag.

3) Give it some time, eventually the installer will load and from here enter Disk Utility; format your HDD in GUID. after you finish you can begin installing.

You can do a full install with printer drivers and additional languages; but I opted to do a barebones install; mostly because I kept reinstalling multiple times to cut down on downtime while I was experimenting...

4) I found I had to move the mouse a little bit every 5 minutes or so during install to prevent it from locking up (I don't know why it did this..)

5) After install, use your USB stick to boot into the OSX partition with -x -v flags on, It may take a little while, but eventually OSX will load in gimped graphics mode; It will have no sound as well.

Run myhack again and apply the same settings you applied your USB install stick to your Snow Leopard Partition; restart your PC and boot into your Snow leopard partition off your HDD, not your USB stick.

6) Now that you're able to get into OS X, get this Radeon 4850 package from kexts.com

Install only these from the 7 Drivers .pkg

Now you will be able to boot into OSX without needing to use -x flag, however the display will stutter and your monitor won't have proper resolutions, do NOT try to skip to step 7; if you do not install these you will be hit by a "Still waiting for root device" error upon reboot. I'm not sure why.

To fix the resolution issue and enable the complete function of your HD4850 you need to use EVOenabler and a modded ATI4800controller, I've included them in the post.

7) Install Kext utility, after Kext utility is installed drag the EVOcontroller and ATI4800controller onto Kext utility one at a time, and it will install them.

Now shutdown your PC, while it is off, connect your monitor to the Radeon port on the right; when you turn your PC back on you will be able to boot into OSX 10.6 with fully enabled graphics and it will recognize your monitor; everything will work perfectly.

.... Until you update to 10.6.1.

Upgrading your OS X

When you use the 10.6.1 package it will reduce your graphics to gimped graphics mode again, after upgrading you must connect your monitor to the left Radeon port again, as it will no longer recognize the port on the right; the reason is because the ATIcontroller kext has been modified.

This issue is easily solved however, simply go to your root folder and enter System -> extensions and copy your ATI4800controller.kext to your desktop.

Right click the kext on your desktop and "Show Package contents", open the "Contents" folder and open info.plist, scroll down until you find content similar to this.

0x94401002 0x944a1002

you will want to change 0x94401002 to 0x94421002.

After editing the should look as follows:
0x94421002 0x944a1002

Edit nothing else and save the changes to the file, after saving drag the ATI4800controller.kext you have just edited onto kext utility to install it, shutdown your computer and attach the monitor to the Radeon port on the right again; your graphics will be fixed for the 10.6.1 update.

To upgrade to 10.6.2 you just simply(lol) have to repeat the above steps; when I tried to do an upgrade form 10.6 to 10.6.2 in this fashion my graphics freaked out; however doing it in steps allowed me to upgrade and keep my graphics in working order.

Reduced Size Screenshot of SL 10.6.2 running on my XPS, 1920 x 1080 I changed the dock because I don't like the 3D one

Create Chameleon USB from Windows [ Guide ]

This is how to create a booting usb from windows without installers or anything else.

1) You will need:
Bootsector files (this files are taken from chameleonb build, they are respectivly - Mbr.bin - boot0 and bs32.bin - boot1f32).
Preferably latest build of chameleon. Download the tar.gz file and unpack with 7z.

2) Lets begin:

BACKUP ANYTHING IMPORTANT ON THE FLASH DRIVE.
- You have to have a some form of partition on your USB, so windows can assign a letter to it. If its empty format in FAT32
- Unpack the bootsector arhive and run through CMD this command:
"makeusb X:" (WHERE X IS THE LETTER ASSIGNED TO YOUR USB)
- Unplug the drive and put it back in
- Now you should have a fresh (empty) partition. All you have to do is unpack the trunk build you downloaded in the root of the USB drive.
- You should copy boot from /usr/standalone/boot to the root folder of your USB. So that there are atleast 2 folders - Extra/usr and 1 file - boot (not extension).
- You're set, now create your config files/put your extensions/adapt your themes

PROS:
Every modern pc/mac can read FAT32
You can use the USB drive for files (it may sound weird, but compared to HFS+ the devices that support it are much more)
You don't Mac for creating the bootloader

CONS:
FAT32 is slow, atleast slowER compared to HFS+

Understanding and Debugging Kernel Panics [ Guide ]

When the kernel crashes on Mac OS X, the system displays a panic message. At this point the system will have to be restarted. But before hitting the power button, how can one find out what caused the crash?
This technote addresses kernel panics: what they are and how to debug the code that caused the panic.
The foundation of Mac OS X is an operating system core commonly known as Darwin. This technote contains links to source files available from the Darwin open source site. Access to these files requires a username and password obtained by agreeing to the Apple Public Source License.

Some known Issues [ Hackintosh ]

No text for my language in System Preferences for keyboard and mouse

The Keyboard.prefPane was modified by the language installers causing it not to work properly, this has been fixed with v1-PPF patch.

My system reboots right after EFI is initialized

Some computers are just not able to run Hackintosh properly, this is mainly due to incompatibilities between the BIOS and Hackintosh ACPI platform. You can try a different BIOS revision, maybe you find one that works. Some people have success booting with cpus=1 bootflag at Darwin.

I am stuck at waiting for root device…

Your SATA and/or IDE chipset is most likely not currently supported in Hackintosh.

My system freezes right before the desktop loads

If you installed video drivers try removing them. Boot with -s at the Darwin promt. this is an example for Nvidia video cards.

/sbin/fsck -fy
/sbin/mount -uw /
rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/Ge*
rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/NVD*
rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/NVinject.kext
exit

With v1-PPF a script is included that will install to the root directory called RemoveVideo. Just boot with -s bootflag at Darwin, then:

/sbin/fsck -fy
/sbin/mount -uw /
./RemoveVideo

Then type exit to finish booting into Hackintosh.

I get a popup once Hackintosh loads saying an Extensions was not properly installed.

You can used the Extensions-Repair application I included to repair this. Alternately you can open terminal and type this:

sudo -s ##enter password
chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/*
chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/*

I am stuck in a loop at account creation

You can try disabling your network card and disconnecting the cable. If this does not work you can setup up an account prior to loading intoHackintosh . Type -s at the Darwin boot prompt.

/sbin/fsck -fy
/sbin/mount -uw /
/sbin/mount -uw /
passwd root ##it will ask you to enter a new password
touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

The default login user name when done will be root.

My system freezes during the install

There are a couple things I know can cause this on some chipsets. If you have more than 2 Gigs of RAM you may randomly get a crash during the install process. You can remove some of your RAM or try the bootflag

maxmem=2048
at the Darwin prompt.
Another thing that can cause this is a bad DVD, if you want to rule out the 2nd option let the installer run its disk verify.

I am missing a character palette under System Preferences/International

This is a well documented bug that comes up from time to time in Hackintosh, not limited to a Hackintosh. The fix is easy, simply browse to /System/Library/Caches and delete the following files:
com.apple.IntlDataCache.le
com.apple.IntlDataCache.le.kbdx
com.apple.IntlDataCache.le.sbdl
com.apple.IntlDataCache.le.tecx

Restart and they should be back!

Not tested, please try by your own risks :)

iATKOS L2 - ALC1200 [ SOLUTION ]

Howto install:
- choose and download kexts pack for ALC1200
- remove VoodooHDA ALCinjector.kext AppleHDA.kext (don't remove this if you're installing legacy version) ALC1200fix.kext and any audio kext you could have installed in /Extra or in /System/Library/Extensions
- unpack the zip file
- run kexthelper
- install kexts
- reboot

Obviously backup kexts you need.

====Q/A====
Q: What happens when I commit an update, for example from 10.6.1 to 10.6.2?
A: You must reinstall those hacked kexts, because the update overwrite the vanilla hacked applehda kexts.
Should even happens that the update doesn't overwrite the old applehda kext driver, so in this case, you don't need to reinstall.

Q: I'm experiencing pop sound, how can I solve this?
A: Try setting your hack as MacPro3,1 in /Extra/smbios.plist

==========OLD STUFF==========
ALC1200 driver for 10.5.x :
I think latest ALC1200_SLIM version could be considered "final", I'm running 10.5.6 and I'm working on this OSx version.
For previous OSx version you can try installing only the ALC1200fix and the HDAEnabler from ALC1200_1056LINEIN version and see if that works.
The other ALC1200 kext versions out on the forum are old and I think can even cause some shutdown/reboot issue.
This driver doesn't work with ALCinjector.

- SPDIF coaxial Digital Out working
- Headphone working
- Line in is working only in the slim and line-in version, read notes down this post

-----------

Works on 10.5.7, just download and reinstall the driver.
Choose driver version, I think best choice is the slim version:
1. Update (4th june 2009) slim version from 10.5.7 applehda with: green line out, headphones, rear mic, line in and spdif out
I removed not needed verbs for multiple channel output (I don't need them)

----
Attached File  ALC1200_SLIM.zip ( 805.01K )
[/b] 19th april 2009 10.5.6 version (discontinued)
2. Normal version with no line-in, you can switch between front/rear mic without any trouble
Attached File  ALC1200_1056.zip ( 819.55K )

3. This is a beta version with all three input working, line-in, front mic and rear mic, front-mic has some trouble tongue.gif
This version works but if you switch between inputs, front mic stops working (only for that session obviously, if you reboot it works). This happens because ALC1200 has 1 digital mixer node for 2 channel (linein and front mic) instead of one, so if you come back from line-in input, to front mic, front mic stops working.
At the moment I would think this driver can't manage thing like this, so I don't know if we could have a better driver than this.
Anyway I wanted a working line in and if you select this and use it, that works, so if you need line-in you should use this version. wink.gif
[attachment=48413:ALC1200_1056LINEIN.zip]
Update (14th april 2009) with RCA spdif in "about this mac"
Attached File  ALC1200_1056LINEIN.zip ( 823.28K )

Update (17th april 2009) removed ALC1200fix.kext from the pack
Attached File  ALC1200_1056_LINEIN.zip ( 810.61K )

If you're updating your driver, in order to install this, remove ALC1200fix.kext from your extension folder, then install this with kexthelper.
Now in sound preference there's no (useless) "Internal speaker" "Built in" for input and output.
