Bug fix for GenericBrightness.kext

If you kept using GenericBrightness.kext for your laptop screen brightness (instead of using either an automatic patch of AppleBacklight by WhateverGreen or a kext injector), it might have failed during the last update to Mojave 10.14.4, causing a KP on boot. This was a bug in the kext. It has been corrected and the new version can be found here:

This kext is still useful if your laptop screen does not use Intel registers (as needed for patched AppleBacklight) but have OEM ACPI methods that actually works.

Hakintosh after 2020?

Hi guys, Just curious after I've heard apple with go with their own processors in 2020, where do you think that will leave those with a hakintosh?

[DISCUSSION] Hackintosh is the way forward for a lot of people. How sustainable is our relationship with Apple?

I have macOS stably working on an Acer E5, a Surface Pro 2017, and my desktop. Two 10.14 devices and 1 10.13 desktop. I Hackintosh because of my love for the OS, but these 3 devices all deliver outstanding prices for the combined cost of less than the iMac.

I considered selling my SP2017 for a MBA with similar Geekbench scores - but why would I? Windows can act as my iPad side and I can do productive work in macOS. For the same cost as the iPad Pro.

This begs the question: for Apple fans and Superusers, Hackintosh is the best way forward. Maybe the only way. A for-sure great way if you have a stable system. The macOS patform is years ahead of Windows, but the Apple hardware years behind. So, is our relationship with Apple sustainable?

How secure are we in our relationship with Apple to use an OS we love on hardware we love?

Are things like native AMD GPU support a slide under the table to Hackintoshers?

Do they plan on keeping letting us exist to feed their ecosystem? How sure is that?

How much do we mean to Apple?

If Hackintoshing was easier - it'd be almost mainstream. So with Apple's in-house macOS homogenity being threatened by expensive, lacking hardware - where does that leave us? Is this a push for Apple to open their OS, or lock it down even more?

Where do you all think the future of Hackintoshing lies?

Happily typed from Mojave on my Surface Pro. :)

Issue with "missing operating system" when booting from USB to install dual boot

Hey all, first time post, so if this has been answered previously, I apologize for the repost.

I just set up my USB with the full 6gb Mojave with unibeast, I copied over multibeast on the USB as well as clover. Figuring I had it all good to go, I partitioned off 500gb of one of my 2 SSDs to do the dual boot and rebooted my HP 870 omen to the usb. I am then greeted with the above message. In the BIOS, I believe I have the settings correct, and it may be more of an issue with the files on the USB.

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

Not sure if this is related to hackintosh but does anyone know how to use BDS(BootDiskUtility),Rufus and some other program to make high Sierra bootable from a usb with little to no hassle? For context,I’m on windows 10 and don’t own/want a Mac or a Linux computer.

Can anyone provide a guide is simple and does not require another os? A guide that will allow high Sierra to boot and have mostly everything working off the bat? Or is some work required? Please explain like I’m 5 in steps.

My first Hackintosh, some help?

Hello! I want to do a Hackintosh to my PC, this is my first time so I think I'll need some help.

CPU: Intel Core i7 2600k
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3
RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 2x8GB @ 1600MHz
GPU: XFX Radeon RX 480 GTR 4GB

Is it possibile to get almost everything working?
I want to install Mojave if possible and dual-boot it with my existing Windows 10, and I have a MacBook Pro (End 2011) if needed.

(I already have a spare disk for macOS, I'm gonna boot macOS or Windows from my bios, if I can't dual-boot it, no problem with that.)

I asked somewhere else and I got these infos:
XFX GPUs are Bad for Hackintosh, I guess, so rip me.
I'm a newbie so I would like to install Mojave but if installing High Sierra will be simpler I'll be happy to install it.

Thanks to everyone :)

Using Clover Configurator, my fake serial number and SmUUID are in the SMBIOS but when I click the Apple menu, and About My Mac, the serial number is not the correct one.

How can I fix this? Thanks.

Onboard audio doesn't work while UAD Apollo audio interface connected via Thunderbolt?

Curious if anybody else has encountered this issue. The onboard ALC 1220 audio works fine until I boot the system with my UAD Apollo twin connected via Titan Ridge thunderbolt ports.

I implemented ALC 1220 audio using Lilu/AppleALC and layout-id=1 as appropriate for my board.

I have not applied an SSDT for Thunderbolt.

Again, ALC 1220 totally works as expected (although does show my logitech computer speakers as being headphones in sound preferences...) until I boot with the UAD audio interface connected via Thunderbolt.

Any thoughts?

My build:

Intel i7-8700k

XFX Radeon RX 580

Mojave on unsupported hackintosh

Hello! I am relatively new to hackintosh (working ones that is) and I finally got a hackintosh set up on Mavericks. The specs: core 2 quad, 8gb ram, gtx 550ti. I would like to run updated applications but I am held back since Mojave doesn’t support my supposed “Early 2008 Mac Pro”. Is there any patched version of Mojave for the core 2 series? Much appreciated, Andrew

Mojave registry not seeing USB 3 ports at all

Mojave registry not seeing USB 3 ports at all

I've been doing lots of homework in this subreddit, as well as on Tonymacx86 and Googling in general, regarding the USB port limit removal tools and creating a custom SSDT in order to have USB 3.0 ports behave correctly in Mojave 10.14.4, but one thing that keeps coming up is confounding me.

Using IORegistryExplorer, one should supposedly be able to at least see the virtual USB 3.0/3.1 ports that correspond to the physical ports on a motherboard, labeled as SSxx, as opposed to HSxx for USB 2.0 virtual ports. But as you can see from my attached image, IORegistryExplorer isn't even doing that. Where I have gone wrong? I have tested all my ports with a 2.0 flash drive, as well as a 3.0 external hard drive. Only the flash drive (and other non-storage peripherals, like the mouse and wireless keyboard already displayed in IORE) work. What else do you need to know from me, miracle workers?

iGPU Mojave Help?

Hi, I have just installed Mojave and it went seamelessly. Whenever I installed Clover bootloader it will get halfway loading and then restart. It will do this over and over too fast to capture an error message. Whenever I reinstalled bootloader with iGPU 630 ticked this time using multibeast it freezes at an 0x3 error.

lenovo Thinkpad T450 Stability?

I apologize in advance if this was a repeated question.

For those that have done a hackintosh on a Lenovo Thinkpad T450, how is the stability of the machine?

Are all of the key features working? (The general software Apple offers such as Airdrop and the laptop ports)

Can you easily connect your laptop up to any printer and set them up easily?

Is it stable enough for it to be a daily driver?

Is the battery life good with the hackintosh?

I am willing to get my hands dirty and mess around with the system to stabilize everything that I need.

I would like to mod a Lenovo Thinkpad T450s that will be arriving in a few days after I perform a screen upgrade.

Thanks for the help!

I have High Sierra, It's safe upgrading to Mojave if you have nVidia Video?

Hi, I have been recently installed High Sierra 10.3.4 on my PC and works perfectly. But it's safe upgrading to Mojave from App Store? I've read that nVidia Drivers are not working well. Or we have to do something?

Or it's safe upgrading a OS from App Store? I have 10.3.4 and it's available the version 10.3.6.??

Thanks a lot.

SUCCESSFUL INSTALL on Sony Vaio PCG81112m , Post Install help needed

Hi All,

Happy to report that I've installed Sierra on a Sony Vaio PCG 81112m laptop!

Would like to post this incase it helps others, and also if others can help me.

  • Bluetooth seems to work OOB (haven't connected yet just searched and it finds devices)
  • Working Wifi (thanks to a £4 ebay wifi card)
  • Legacy Clover
  • I'm using a MacbookPro 6,2 SMBIOS, it seemed closes to my processor ( Intel i7 740qm.)

My Outstanding issues I have are

  • Graphics - Laptop has a NVIDIA GT452m chip. I can't boot with a screen without NV_Disable=1. I've tried to force web drivers (I've downloaded and installed these), and NVDIA single boots on Clover, the system restarts.
  • Audio - System Profiler says it's Intel High Definition Audio. It recognises the connections. I've tried nothing to get this working yet, will update this as I do.
  • Battery - Haven't looked into this, will update when I have.
  • About My Mac - I can't get this to load, I've not had much look finding this out yet, mixed responses over forum searches.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'll update this as I learn to fix these issues :)

Weird dual monitor bug

My hackintosh is working all fine and dandy - with 1 monitor. However when i plug in a second monitor I have a weird issue. I can boot and while im on the actual MacOS user login screen everything works fine across two monitors. However as soon as I actually log in and go to desktop the displays freeze within a few seconds. It seems to tie in with when the Nvidia progam loads. I've tried a few different config setups but nothing seems to be working.

Any ideas on what it could be and how to solve it?

I'm running the following on High Sierra:

  • EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2

  • i7 8700

  • ASUS ROG Strix Z390-I Gaming LGA1151

  • Two identical displayport monitors (1440p at 165hz)

Booting with a fresh SSD?

Hey all,

I've tried searching and either what I want to know is t addressed anywhere, or I don't know the terms, so sorry if this is answered somewhere.

I got a "broken" 2015 MacBook pro from a co-worker. I had zero Mac experience but thought I'd take a crack at fixing it. I was able to narrow it down to the HDD (boots up to question mark folder). It also seems to have a firmware password as I get the password prompt for it when I try to boot into recovery, boot options, or anything else.

I got an adapter to connect the SSD to my desktop and tried loading a recovery image on the SSD with transmac, and tried putting a Windows installation on it, both resulting in the question mark folder.

My question - is there any way to get it to boot up anything without the firmware password? I'd take Mac, windows, or Linux.

R9 390 Mojave Setup?

Hey guys,

I had a GTX 980ti until apple dropped support in Mojave, my friend has given me an old R9 390 to use instead as AMD has better luck.

I have plugged it in and injected AMD, but acceleration doesn't seem to be on and its reporting as

AMD Radeon R9 290/390 14 MB in the system info, clearly the 14mb isnt correct

I am using lilu and whatevergreen in my kexts folder, my mobo is a X99 gigabyte so no integrated graphics

Are there any further steps required? As im a but stuck, cheers!

I need help for my first hackintosh (max 1500$), which gpu should I buy ?

Hi there, I am going to build my first PC/Hackintosh because I cant edit 4K footage on my late 2013 macbook pro. And I also need more power for my 3d rendering. Could you help me choose a good and easy build ? I mainly work with DavinciResolve / Blender / Logic / Premiere / Aftereffect. I'd like to have a dual boot system with Windows to get all of the 3d software that aren't compatible with Mac OS, I also want Windows OS to play little indie games on steam. But I wanted to keep MacOS for their interface, Logic, etc... You know all of these stuffs that make apple "Apple", if not you wouldnt be here :-)

Anyway, does it mean I'll have to buy two SSD to have Mac OS and Windows?

I think I'll buy an I7-8700K and for the gpu I dont know if I should take vega64, gtx1070, or RX570 ?

Installing macOS with AMD CPU

Hi, I've been using macOS on unsupported hardware for years and am currently running a Z170 and 6700k. Obviously, there's been a ton of new CPU developments since then, and I'm looking to get in on these new high core count consumer CPUs. I'm not really looking to shell out for a 9900k, and have seen people have had decent success installing macOS on Ryzen processors. Once I get the install running (even if it takes a bit longer) will there be any noticeable differences between going with a 2700x instead of a 9900k? LIke basically is it possible to have a 99% smoothly running ryzen macOS install as it is with an intel cpu?

WiFi switches from AC to N randomly

I have a Broadcom BCM94360CD which will randomly switch from AC (5ghz) to N (2.4ghz) and slow me down, sometimes even cut out the internet totally. No idea why this happens or what triggers it. The only way to "fix" it is to turn off and on the wifi, and everything goes back to normal until it switches again.

Not sure when this started, but I've been noticing it more and more the last few weeks.

Anyone have any ideas? I've done research and found nothing.

Just a quick question here but basically all i want to do is edit the serial number string that is displayed on the "About This Mac" screen. It must be stored somewhere, i've tried another tutorial but that only worked for old versions of Mac OS X.

P.S. I'm not looking to change the actual serial number, just the string that's displayed on the "ATM" screen. (If it's even do-able.)

Intel I211 passthrough in a macOS Unraid VM

I recently setup a macOS Mojave VM in Unraid using SpaceInvaderOne's tutorial, and everything works surprisingly well, with the exception of internet performance. I get downloads of somewhere between 200 and 300Mbps, when I should be getting 800+. I know this is a limitation of vmxnet3, which is fine, but I also know that one of my NICs are supported with a third-party kext (IntelMausi). The NIC works fine in my primary hackintosh setup (which is installed directly to one of my SSDs).

I have the network card passing through to the VM, and the kext in Clover's kext folder. However, vmxnet3 continues to be the only devices listed in System Information, when I assume both vmxnet3 and the Intel I211 NIC should be visible. Is there something that I need to add to my XML configuration to get passthrough working? And is ethernet passthrough even possible in a macOS VM?
