I installed macOS Sequoia on my 2012 iMac and then after I (finally) installed it, root patched it, restarted and then bam. Question mark folder. The only temporary fix I found was to plug in my installer USB and select my SSD but if I need my installer to be used somewhere else/be formatted then there is no way for me to use my iMac anymore. Can anyone help with this so that I can use my installer somewhere else and/or not have to use it every time?
Hey all! I've managed to keep my 2012 MBP alive for this long, but it's giving me signs its on it's last leg. Looking for advice to extend its life. I love this laptop. I've replaced the keyboard twice (needs replacing again: can't find a good keyboard where keys won't malfunction or pop off), replaced the fan, battery twice, upgraded to 1TB SSD, and 16GB of RAM. I'm running Ventura 13.7.1.
The age of the computer is preventing me from using Chrome and Safari doesn't really work for all sites, so I've been using Brave which has been okay but I think it takes a lot of power to run. I will also be honest and say I'm pretty hard on this laptop. I use several programs that I know are problematic for a computer this age, abode, fusion 360, and keyshot.
I say all that to say, my computer is freezing (requiring me to hard restart), continuously running after I close the laptop without shutting down (causing it to overheat), and now I'm seeing a lot of glitching in my screen. I'm going to back up the hard drive, but I want know if anyone as insight on how to preserve the computer longer. Should I update or change from Ventura? Also, if I do need to upgrade, which MBP would give me similar flexibility because I love being able to work on my computer if something goes wrong. Appreciate the help in advance.
Hello, I've already asked before but due to the lack of suggestions I want to ask again, macOS Ventura works perfectly so I'm thinking of installing macOS Sonoma because Ventura will lose support eventually so I can extend it's lifespan. Any firsthand experiences would be really helpful!
Hi Reddit, I have a Late 2009 A1312 27 inch iMac. Recently the logic board died in it and i bought another one, Will my old hard drive with opencore on it still work with the new logic board? its the same model number as the old one. literally the same board. So will it work? If not, I bought a hard drive on ebay with high sierra on it and im willing to reinstall open core if needed. Thanks.
hey yall! i have a mac mini m4 that i need to restore via this instruction https://support.apple.com/en-us/108900 so the only requirement for the other mac is to be macOS Sonoma 14 or later: "Another Mac of any model using macOS Sonoma 14 or later. You will use this Mac to revive or restore the affected Mac. Find out which macOS your Mac is using." i dont have another mac with me and neither, i believe, anyone that i know (nor the local repair guys) have compatible mac (i mean mac that would support sonoma on its own). so i deciding to buy a macbook air 11 mid 2012 (cuz its cheap) and oclp it to sonoma and then restore my mac mini. what do yall think about it? will it work? anyone did this? share your story. thanks for reading
Hi, i have, as the title states, an early 2015 macbook air that i want to patch. It has 8GB of ram and i mainly use it for screen sharing my main pc at home and use it everywhere, but also for university so mainly pdfs and pptx. I was wondering if it makes sense to upgrade to Sonoma or Sequoia or just keep Monterey. If someone has done it with the same model, did you have any troubles on bugs?
And also would it be difficult to return to Monterey after using OpenCore for updating to an unsupported version?
![]() | So multiple apps wont launch, even if i say "Allow Anyways" in the Settings it just keeps Bouncing in the Dock nothing happens. I tried it with .jar and an Application. I´ve never had these problems without opencore. Do you know an fix for it ? [link] [comments] |
Hi,
Hope someone can help me. I have an imac 5k late 2015 that I installed opencore on sometime this winter and updated to Sequia.
It's buggy and laggy and now it doesn't really wotk with my photo software (glitches etc) so I want to uninstall it, revert to the newest os my imac supports and crucially keep my files, programs and settings.
All my files are on external harddrives so those are okay (they're also backed up on Time Machine), but how to I keep my files and setting on the Mac drive? Those are also backed up to Time Machine, is it possible to restore those with every setting in programs etc in place or do I have to start over?
Is there as step by step guide somewhere?

Hello everyone! I need some help regarding my Ryzen 5 3500U. I have successfully installed macOS Ventura, but I’m unable to update to Sonoma. Can anyone please tell me how to fix this and install macOS Sonoma without any errors?

I’ve been messing with the framebuffers for a while now and haven’t been able to fix this issue. Even with boot flags, the issue persists. The monitor is running a resolution of 3840x1080 at a refresh rate of 60 hertz. Additionally, the monitor is connected via HDMI. If anyone knows a fix, please let me know! I’ve been trying to fix this for days. (More info about my setup is in the video) [link] [comments] |
So I was at work the other day and one of my coworkers has a newer Macbook and he had this animated forest scene as a screensaver. It looked really nice and I thought I'd check in to it, but apparently he said his computer came with it. I'm on Ventura 13.7.6 now, but have just looked in to OCLP, and started reading about the potential bugs and all of that. I have the touchbar/touch ID sensors, and I'd hate to lose that functionality, but I do want that animated screensaver. I believe I read that it came out in Sonoma, so I could avoid Sequoia and it's issues, but my question is basically will I run in to the same issues with Sonoma that I could with Sequoia? Touch pad not working, Touch ID not working, etc...? I see there are some workarounds, but I'd hate to lose functionality over just acquiring an animated wallpaper.
Thanks!
Hello all. I have a MPB 9,2 on which I'm trying to use OpenCore to install a recent macOS version, but I've been having a lot of trouble for some reason. I have tried three different flash drives and Sequoia, Sonoma, and Ventura. I've tried each installer multiple times each. I'm following OpenCore's instructions to the letter. The first time I tried to install on top of an existing (Catalina) installation out of laziness to re-configure everything, but all subsequent times I've reformatted the hard drive prior to trying the install. Each time I try it, the installer goes for a while, reboots itself once, and then shows a generic error message saying that a problem occurred during the installation. It has renamed the entire hard drive "Macintosh HD - Data" and then apparently lost track of what it was supposed to do. At this point I'm not sure where the error could be coming from - I've tried building these installers using OpenCore on two different machines, carefully selecting the correct target model each time, and since I've also tried different flash drives and OS versions the only common denominator now is the destination laptop itself, but since the hard drive is a blank slate I'm struggling to figure out what could be causing the problem there. Anyone have any suggestions?
![]() | I have installed K3100M in my iMac 2011 27" with Sonoma fresh install using OpenCore Legacy Patcher. At first it seemed ok, every worked, but I noticed that the machine did not use graphics acceleration from K3100M at all. I tried to search for solution, but none had the same problem. Any helps are appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Using OpenCore i tried to install macOS 15.5 from USB and it shows a stop sign. I have Secure boot disabled and booting form,USB enabled please help me

Big sur shows a weird graphical issue. The cables are connected well, and this didn't happen when I had windows installed. If I leave it running for a period of time, it happens less often, but still shows up. It doesn't show up in screenshots/screenrecordings, so I have to record with a camera. [link] [comments] |
HP Z640 E5-2697v4 X2 256GB Ram 5600 XT AMD Nvme drives
So I decided to swap my CPUs around as I was using my hackintosh more than the other machine I have. So I thought it was better to have more cores in the hackintosh due to the Photoshop work I do.
So originally I had E5-2667v4 x 2 and then swapped over to E5-2697v4 x 2 which I thought it would be a simple swap! But it doesn't want to boot or reinstall. Just crashes the minute I try and boot it or reinstall.
Any ideas anyone bit of an odd one really...
Update...
Just tried booting it off one 1 CPU worked perfectly. Soon as you plug in the second doesn't boot. This machine was already a dual CPU system so does have the kexts in for a dual CPU system.
Specs: 4GB RAM, 128 GB Storage, Intel Core i5 1.6 GHz
- Already running macOS Ventura with OCLP, Work Perfect!
Hi, looking to get some help with my mid 2012 13 inch i7 MacBook Pro. It worked fine for the few days that I’ve had it running sequoia with OCLP on a 500gb SSD, but then as I was opening a tab on chrome it randomly froze completely.
After waiting for a bit I shut it down by force then turned it back on.
It booted to the opencore efi and was able to select my SSD partition but then wouldn’t load at all.
So I had to force turn it off once again, which might have been a mistake since now I cannot turn it back on.
When I do turn it on the fan spins at it’s normal speed, CD drive makes its usual noise and the power LED turns on faintly. Absolutely nothing else happens : no chime, no backlight etc..
What I tried so far : - all the usual reset commands on startup, none worked. - turning it on without the SSD (same result) - swapping the ram with a known working MacBook. - Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes.
Did I brick my MacBook ? I’d hate to have to get another one as it’s in really nice shape and had been working very well as a second laptop…
Just wondering if there is anyone with the above noted machine that has tried and was successful at getting the machine to run without a ton of lag?
I have 16gb, ddr3 ram and an SSD and it was running Sequoia, albeit very slowly. Thought about maybe upgrading the HD but wasn't sure that would make much difference.
Outside of the lag, everything seemed to be working as it should.
Hey! I just got into MacOS. I just happen to use Macbook Air 2017, 8gb RAM, 256gb SSD. I did use OCLP to upgrade it to sequoia. The animations are little choppy. Is there a way to make it smoother or this is all because of the hardware limitations? Thank you!
![]() | I have cleaned the fans, applied new thermal paste, and everything works great for a decade old MacBook 😃 [link] [comments] |
As the title says. It makes it to the sign in screen, I enter my password and it begins to load the OS but soon shuts down before it fully loads. I'm not even sure if it's crashing because there's no crash report; the computer just turns completely off.
I've reset the SMC and the NVRAM, didn't help. I've also checked the battery kexts and they were present.
The only way to get the MacBook to boot all the way up is if I plug in the power cable.
Any ideas?
![]() | I am brand new to the server. I've been in it for more than 5 minutes already and still don't have access to the rest of the channels. I tried rejoining and still the same issue. Can someone like an admin or moderator please help? Thank you [link] [comments] |
Hi everyone, this is my first post on Reddit so sorry if I mess anything up.
I recently got a mid-2012 MacBook Pro (MD101) from my aunt. It's still working fine, and I was thinking maybe I could use it just for work stuff like typing, browsing, and simple tasks. I already have another laptop that I use for work and gaming, so this MacBook would just be for basic use.
I found out about OpenCore Legacy Patcher and it looks really interesting. But I’m not sure if it’s still worth upgrading this MacBook in 2025. I’d probably need to upgrade the RAM (it’s only 4GB right now) and maybe put in an SSD too.
Is it still a good idea to do all that? Has anyone here used OCLP on this model and had a good experience?
Would really appreciate any advice or thoughts. Thanks in advance!
![]() | I'm new to OCLP, and did my first upgrade a couple of days ago. I read / followed the overview at https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/START.html#how-do-i-get-started , then followed the detailed steps starting with https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/INSTALLER.html#downloading-the-installer (then clicking through the linked documents after that). I'd say the documentation is very well-written, but still had a few confusing moments, IMO. My upgrade was to a Macbook Air mid-2013 (6,2). It was officially 'stuck' at MacOS Big Sur 11.7. So I used OCLP 2.4.0 to upgrade it to MacOS Sonoma, 14.7. I downloaded OCLP 2.4.0 to the Mac, then ran it. I then used it to create the MacOS installer USB. I built the USB with both the OCLP EFI boot component and the MacOS Sonoma install component, and applied the upgrade to the laptop. After a LONG period, and several reboots, the system finally rebooted and entered into the new OS; logged in and all was well in MacOS Sonoma. I believe, at that point, I was still required to boot to the USB (if I reboot the computer), so that the OCLP EFI can then boot me into the updated OS on the SSD. I then followed the instructions in the 'Post Installation' section of the documentation, and this is where I got really confused. The documentation says this:
Why does it say 'download OCLP'? - didn't we just do that at the start of the process? Is this for the case of a clean install (I did an in-place upgrade, so OCLP was already present)? And what does 'Build OpenCore again' mean? Didn't I just build OpenCore before the install? Again, is this relevant only if you did a clean install? I think I just re-launched the existing OCLP that I'd downloaded a few hours ago, and then used 'Build and Install OpenCore', this time to the hard drive. I think I then did the reboot, holding 'option', and chose the internal EFI from the following screen: I'm pretty sure I chose the icon on the left (SSD EFI Boot), which then let me choose the 'Macintosh HD', and I again booted into my new MacOS (Sonoma). At that point, I don't recall doing anything more, and I was able to reboot at will, without the USB drive, and all I see on the 'boot screen' is the one local hard drive - 'Macintosh HD'. Looking at the 'Post Installation' document further, it talks about 'booting seamlessly without Boot Picker'. In order to do this, it says "To do this, run the OpenCore Patcher and head to Patcher Settings, then uncheck "Show OpenCore Bootpicker" on the Build tab" (which I did). But then it says "Once you've toggled it off, build your OpenCore EFI once again and install to your desired drive." Here, once again, it's telling me to 'build your OpenCore EFI once again' - which I'm sure I didn't do - and 'Install to your desired drive' - which I'm sure I didn't do - it was already there. What exactly am I being told to do here, and why? Do I need to do yet another rebuild and install step to my SSD? What are the consequences of not doing that? I also used the OCLP menu to 'Post-Install Root Patch', but got 'all applicable patches already installed'. [link] [comments] |
