Troubleshooting Google Chrome Crashes on macOS Catalina: Solutions and Fixes

It seems like you're encountering an issue with Google Chrome crashing on your Mac Pro running macOS Catalina. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

  1. Update Google Chrome: Ensure that you have the latest version of Google Chrome installed. Open the App Store, go to the Updates tab, and check if there's an update available for Chrome. If there is, download and install it.

  2. Clear Chrome Cache: Sometimes, corrupted cache files can cause Chrome to crash. Open Chrome, click on Chrome in the menu bar, then select Clear Browsing Data. Choose a time range, select the types of data you want to delete, and click Clear Data.

  3. Reset Chrome Settings: Open Chrome, click on Chrome in the menu bar, then select Preferences. Scroll down and click Advanced, then scroll down to the "Reset and clean up" section. Click on Restore settings to their original defaults and confirm.

  4. Disable Chrome Extensions: Sometimes, incompatible or outdated Chrome extensions can cause crashes. Open Chrome, type chrome://extensions/ in the address bar, and press Enter. Disable all extensions and see if Chrome still crashes. If not, enable them one by one to identify the problematic extension.

  5. Check for macOS Updates: Ensure that your macOS Catalina is up to date. Go to the Apple menu > System Preferences > Software Update and check for any available updates. Install any updates if available.

  6. Run Chrome in Safe Mode: Try running Chrome in Safe Mode to see if any third-party software or extensions are causing the issue. Open Terminal and type the following command:

    css
    /Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google\ Chrome --disable-extensions --disable-plugins --disable-gpu

Press Enter to run Chrome in Safe Mode and see if it still crashes.

  7. Create a New User Profile: Create a new user profile on your Mac and see if Chrome works fine under the new profile. This will help determine if the issue is specific to your user account.

If none of the above solutions work, you may need to uninstall and reinstall Google Chrome or consider using an alternative web browser until the issue is resolved.
