Disabling my Sapphire GPU lights?

I never installed windows, and I’d like to disable the LEDs to my video card “SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 5700 XT”. I don’t know a lot about this card other than that it’s overpowered for Adobe and that I was high on hackintoshing and quarantine funds while getting no advice from friends until after I bought everything.

Anyway, The only tips I’ve seen via Google require installing windows applications. And I’d rather just take electrical tape to the light emitting areas. The lights are visible from where I sleep and that’s a no no.

HP EliteBook 840 G2 - macOS Catalina - Stuck on LocHB 71B4903C-14EC-42C4-BDC6-CE1449930E49

I have a HP EliteBook 840 G2 (Broadwell Laptop i5 5300u - HD 5500 - 16GB RAM), and read the OpenCore Install Guide (dortania.github.io) and made the EFI structure numerous times, checking the lot; and then resorted to finding additional pieces where possible to see if it may help in, but nothing avails and I eventually receive [EB|`B:WFDW] Err(0xE), 0 @ LocHB 71B4903C-14EC-42C4-BDC6-CE1449930E49, followed by the dreaded [EB|#LOG:EXITBS:START] 2020-12-31T17:40:45

I've already started at Kernel Issues | OpenCore Install Guide (dortania.github.io) but after combing through the troubleshooting guides recommendations, I still can't get the thing to boot into the Catalina Install drive.

Here's the boot log on paste bin: pastebin.com/zcHTamuL

Need help applying the shutdown fix in OpenCore 6.4

I have a working Hackintosh with OpenCore 6.4 and latest Mac OS Big Sur. I fixed most of the issues except this shutdown thing. My pc won't shutdown properly. I have narrowed the issue to the point that I figured that the usb controller responsible for turning off the system won't turn off.

I followed this guide https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Post-Install/usb/misc/shutdown.html

but I can't seem to find the correct usb controller. to edit the FixShutdown-USB-SSDT.dsl

any help would be appreciated. I know my laptop can Shutdown becouse it does in windows.

thanks in advance. !!

Ryzen Beachballs and Stutters

Not sure if this is just an inescapable part of using a Ryzen system, but I can't seem to get rid of these stutters and beachballs on my Ryzen system (3700x, 16GB, 5700xt).

I'm using iMacPro1,1, but am not sure if this is really the best choice.

Changing CPU name in macOS Big Sur

Changing CPU name in macOS Big Sur

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone knows how to change the CPU name under the "About this Mac" section in macOS Big Sur? I am currently using a 6-core AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU in my custom built Mac Pro but when I check About this Mac, it says that I'm using a 6-core Intel Core i5 and I'd like to change it. I've tried using tools like ThemeEngine with no success and I'm wondering if there's anything else to do about it. It's not a big deal but any feedback is appreciated!

Does anyone here use QEMU on macOS?

I’ve been looking for a good emulator for Linux and currently run VMware fusion (virtualbox sucks ass) and found qemu on brew. I was wondering if it was any good compared to the Linux version and I’d it has any graphical front ends.

ASUS Z490M-PLUS Hackintosh (Dual Boot) - OpenCore 0.6.4

Using 2 GPU, one for Hackintosh one for Windows with OC ?

So with all these new cards releases, although the price is all over the place right now, I'm considering replacing my vega 56 with newer cards, one for gaming (3060 Ti at this point, but hopefully next year price would be better for higher cards) and cheap one for hackintosh (rx 570?).

Specs are : Ryzen 5 3600, MSI X570 gaming plus, Vega 56 Red Devil (beast of a card), 32 gb RAM. Currently running OC 6.3 on latest Big Sur. It's running like a champ.

My plan is to have the 3060 Ti in first PCI slot (for higher performance) and RX 570 in 3rd PCI slot (since 3060 Ti most likely cover 2 slot).

My understanding is that I can spoof the 1st PCI slot (hide it) by using this guide : dortania - Disabling GPU

Hopefully it will hide the 1st PCI slot and Opencore can just use the 3rd PCI slot? Is it that easy or am I missing something? Anyone have experience with this?

Cheers.

Windows -> macOS remote desktop - can it be emulated just as good as Windows -> Windows?

So I've just installed Big Sur in a VM on my unRAID server. Works flawlessly and iCloud/iMessage works as well.

My problem is, I want a somewhat similar experience doing remote desktop into the server, as I would if I use native RDP in Windows, when I connect to another Windows machine. My Windows/daily driver setup consists of 3 monitors (4K, 2.5K, and 2K), but if I remote desktop into a Windows laptop with only a single 1080p monitor, it automatically emulates 3 monitors for me, exactly like it is in my daily driver Windows setup.

However, I have not gotten that to work when doing Windows -> macOS. I have enabled GPU passthrough and removed VNC in virt manager, so I need to have a monitor attached to my unRAID server's graphics card, in order to get a resolution.

Is it true there is no alternative method out there? Preferably I would love to run the server completely headless, but I do have some HDMI 4K dummies/emulators coming soon, if I really need to use those.

I just want my 3 monitors on my Windows setup to show a macOS desktop with 3 monitors as well.

Will an ALC880 audio codec work for Big Sur?

I couldnt find any options for that audio codec... Will my audio work? My WiFi card is also a realtek RTL8821CE and I'm a little worried about that as well. Has anyone been able to make these work? I'm trying to install Big Sur

I7 5820k low Geekbench 5 scores.

My Geekbench 5 scores are oddly low compared to other scores with the same CPU and OS version, around 500-700 for single core, and never above 4000 for multi, whereas similar systems are hitting 6000 for multi.

Intel Power Gadget confirms the CPU is hitting its boost clock of 3.6Ghz, whereas iStat Menus does report hitting 3Ghz at all.

I’ve compiled a manual SSDT-PMC.aml, I’ve used CPUFriendFriend, and ensured the KEXTs are running - no difference.

And I’ve checked IORegistryExplorer that power management is running, it confirms plugin-type as 0x1.

[HELP] OpenCore on ASUS Rampage II GENE

[HELP] OpenCore on ASUS Rampage II GENE

I need the help of the community! I've had a working install of macOS High Sierra on an ASUS Essentio CG5290 using Clover Legacy, and now I'm trying to migrate to OpenCore. Each time I boot from OC, I get a kernel panic. I think this has something to do with my SSDTs as I cannot locate an embedded controller on the stripped-down version of the ASUS Rampage II GENE that the computer uses. I can, however, locate an LPC Controller. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I'd like to get some help getting my hackintosh (ASRock z490 itx/ac) to recognize the ethernet

Like title says, I'm trying to get the ethernet to work and I've tried plugging in the RealtekRTL8111, IntelMausi, and LucyRTL8125 kext (all separately, one by one), and restarting my hackintosh... but I can't get it to recognize my ethernet cable. The cable itself is lighting up, so it seemed like it's physically working.

Wifi/BT is working. I installed a native card and took out the stock one that came with it.

Not sure if it affects the ethernet but I also did my USB port mapping.

Here are my current kexts. Here are the specs for my motherboard.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit1: I tried using RealTekrtl8111- v2.2.2 but still didn't work

RAM: 16GB DDR4 SODIMM
Motherboard/Laptop model: LG Gram 17Z90N

Ethernet Card: Realtek USB FE Family Controller (Can't find exact ethernet card anywhere)
Wifi/BT Card: Intel® AX201D2W
What guide/tool followed: OpenCore IceLake Laptop Setup, version 0.6.4 (https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Install-Guide/)
What files/config I am using: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1GT3ZcAXUyd_AOkBg32NOvM620Z2K8Wx3?usp=sharing, under the EFI folder
What part I got an issue with:

When I boot off the USB after setting up the USB installer, I select the EFI (external) option in the Boot Menu photo attached. I see the boot fails at a part with H:CHK (Boot Output photo attached), which I assume is some sort of hardware check before boot. I've tried to go through and check the EFI and make sure I have the proper Kext files and driver files, but I'm not sure if they are totally correct and would cause the boot to fail.

I have already tried to switch the RebuildAppleMemoryMap to False and the SetupVirtualMap to True, but that did not cause any noticeable change in the boot process. I am also booting this off of a removable USB SSD, which I don't think would impact anything but it may be useful info. Any help would be appreciated as I'm stumped at this point, this is my first time attempting a Hackintosh.

Also im a bit confused with the setup of opencanopy. thanks i will link my efi if required. Built my first hackintosh today! Few ?s

I used opencore to get Big Sur running on my gaming pc. I borrowed an rx580 for the set up to see if it worked before I bought my own. (I use a 2080s)

My serial number says “To be filled in by oem” Will this cause issues?

Also, I need to leave my usb drive plugged in in order for opencore to allow me to boot into the ssd with Mac OS installed on it. Any tips for that or will that need to be plugged in whenever I plan to use it?

My specs: msi mpg x570 Ryzen 7 3800x Sapphire rx580 4gb 32gb 3600mhz Corsair vengeance Kingston a400 for install

New Hackintosh, what now?

As much as I enjoyed the research, build, and configuration processes involved in getting a Hackintosh up and running, I don't really know what to do with it now. I initially started the project wanting to use it to get familiar with MacOS (job prospects, sake of learning, etc), and to do app development. Now, I'm not to sure what else to do. Anyone have any suggestions?

Resize BAR support with hackintosh system (opencore)?

It seems like the recent BIOS upgrade enables the Resize BAR support (aka smart access memory), but seems like changing it will trigger some ACPI error which stops the system and/or the installer from booting, anyone have any luck with this? It is annoying to turn it off every time I want to boot to my macOS.

my spec: aorus ITX X570 + 5900X

Ryzen Hackintosh keeps freezing on idle - SOLVED!

I just wanted to post this here in case anyone else was having this issue.

My Ryzen 9 3900x Hackintosh was always freezing whenever the processor was idling. I honestly couldn't find out why this was because Windows was 100% stable. I did have a slight undervolt to keep temps down, and apparently that was causing instability in macOS. Returning the voltage back to normal in the BIOS worked like a charm! I hope this helps anyone who is trying to troubleshoot this issue on their own Ryzentoshes. Happy hacking!

Upgrade to Big Sur needs a new GPU ?

Hello guys, i'm currently using a 2015 15" MBP as workstation and i have recently built a new rig based on a Ryzen 3900XT / x570 / RTX 3080 combo and i would love to use it as a dual boot hackintosh.

My previous hackintosh used a GTX 1080 but if i'm not wrong, Big Sur is not compatible anymore with them, which leaves me with a choice :

  • Keep my 1080 and try to hackintosh the new rig on Catalina
  • Try to get a cheap AMD card

What would be the best choice for you guys ?

My Hackintosh USB stops at apple logo after verbose text

So I am having this annoying issue. I am trying to boot the High Sierra installer on an AMD machine of mine. The verbose text completes, and the Apple logo appears. Nothing. I can move the cursor around, but nothing happens. This is annoying and I want to know how to get past it. Nowhere helped, so my last hope is here. I followed the dortaina guide and my processor is an AMD Bulldozer thing. Any help is appreciated

Windows vs Hackintosh in Adobe Aftereffects

Hello Everyone,

I have a Big Sur Hackintosh and I recently made a hackintosh vs windows performance difference

I made a basic render test that took 1min7sec in windows and 58sec on macOS

but, I felt that windows felt a little more snappier than macOS throughout the run,

I had many rainbow circle in macOS but performance wise, macOS seems to be better

i5-7400

rx570 4gb

MSI H110m pro vh plus

1TB hard disks for mac and windows each

Finally a success I suppose! OC 0.6.4 Big Sur 11.1

Does anyone have problems with Sidecar in Big Sur?

I can't use sidecar wirelessly. I can use it only with a wired connection.

My first ever hackintosh😁 (lenovo ideapad 510s-14ikb)

Do you hate the way MacOS handles your 2k (2560x1440) display resolution? Me too. Here's how to fix it. || [Free Tool for custom HiDPI Resolutions]

Do you hate the way MacOS handles your 2k (2560x1440) display resolution? Me too. Here's how to fix it. || [Free Tool for custom HiDPI Resolutions]

After a year of absolutely despising a 2K monitor which I discovered only too late does NOT play nice with MacOS, I have finally discovered some beautiful relief. I imagine there are at least a few other Hackintoshers out there who find themselves with the same problems - Like all native elements are really f---ing small, but scaling to 1080 is fuzzy thanks to no HiDPI support; messing with browser font sizes which inevitably messes up rendering for most websites applies changes across other monitors too (so if I want something readable on my 2k monitor, the same browser on my other 4k monitor is now readable by a legally blind man across the room).

Well, some charitable Russian saint on Github just gave us an enormous quality-of-life improvement. It could not be easier to use either. It's a simple App, lives in your menu bar, doesn't require SIP to be disabled. It's just everything I've ever dreamed of and I'm so happy I could just about cry.

I am using the HiDPI for creating a 2048x1152 scale on a 27" LG 2K monitor (the 27GL850 to be exact). This resolution keeps my picture quality crisp while perfectly matching element sizing to my 27" 4k monitor (which has always been natively supported with HiDPI).

You'll want to play around with the different available HiDPI resolutions depending on your display's native resolution and screen size.

Screenshot of the RDM App

Here's the link to the Github Repo - See "Releases" on righthand side, 2.3.3

NOTE: I am still on Catalina. I have no idea whether or not this app supports Big Sur. Guessing it does but check first if this applies to you.

Here's a (almost certainly unnecessary) Medium guide - The app is about as self explanatory as it gets but just in case anyone finds that useful.

NOTE #2: You may need to disable SIP for setting custom resolutions depending on which OS you're running. I did not need to even mess with any of that because the latest version (2.3.3) had all of the relevant HiDPI resolutions already bundled in for 2560x1440 (2k).

NOW GO SWEET CHILD, GO ENJOY YOUR 2K MONITOR AS YOU'VE ALWAYS DREAMED!
