Lenovo Unveils New Smart Camera, Smart Bulb, and Smart Plug That Work With Apple HomeKit

Lenovo unveiled a new line of smart products at the company's annual Tech Life event yesterday. Dubbed Lenovo Smart Home Essentials, the family of connected devices aims to offer a simple, one stop shop for a smarter home.

The Smart Plug, Smart Camera, and Smart Bulb are designed to work with the Lenovo Smart Display and a new Lenovo Link app.

The Lenovo Link app serves as a centralized control center to set up and manage all applicable devices, as opposed to an individual app for each device. Users can control specific groups of devices at once or automate them to make certain actions at specific times during the day. Not only do the Lenovo Smart Home Essentials work with the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa,1 but customers will be able to easily set up, automate and control various aspects of the home with just their voice using the Lenovo Smart Display as a control hub.

Drivers Using Apple CarPlay Report Higher Satisfaction Than Those Using Android Auto [JD Power]

The J.D. Power 2018 U.S. Tech Experience Index Study found that drivers using Apple CarPlay reported higher satisfaction than those using Android Auto.

The company notes that the technologies are becoming 'must haves' for many consumers just a few years after being introduced. Both are showing rapid year-over-year penetration increases.

“This rapid adoption of smartphone mirroring is the unavoidable outcome of consumers thinking that automakers are being outperformed by smartphone software providers in certain areas,” said Kristin Kolodge, Executive Director of Driver Interaction & HMI Research at J.D. Power. “Most consumers consider phone systems better for navigation and voice recognition—and they’re free. ‘Better and free’ are hard to compete with, so automakers will inevitably have to cede this territory and will be much better served by focusing on areas where they are the exclusive provider—like driver assistance and collision avoidance—and continue to hone those systems.”

Apple Releases Fourth Beta of Shortcuts App With iCloud Sync

Apple has released a fourth beta of its upcoming Shortcuts app for iOS with support for iCloud sync.

Siri Shortcuts deliver a new, much faster way to get things done with the ability for any app to work with Siri. Siri intelligence can suggest an action at just the right time — whether it’s to order a coffee in the morning or start an afternoon workout. Users can customize Shortcuts by creating a simple voice command to kick off the task or download the new Shortcuts app to create a series of actions from different apps that can be carried out with a simple tap or customized voice command. It’s easy for developers to take advantage of this new capability using Shortcut APIs.

Resolved Issues in Shortcuts Beta 4
• iCloud syncing of shortcuts is not yet available. (39368432)
• Shortcuts that change system settings, access the clipboard, or use
current location may not work from Siri (43152030)
• Shortcuts that include Health actions may open the Shortcuts app when run from Siri (43107300)
