If you encountered a Kernel Panic during the Sonoma upgrade process on your Sandy Bridge Hackintosh, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

  1. Boot in Safe Mode:

    • Ensure that all necessary kexts, drivers, and configuration files are present and properly configured.
  3. Update OpenCore:

    • Check for the latest version of OpenCore and update your EFI folder accordingly.
    • Updating OpenCore may bring improvements and compatibility fixes.
  4. Verify Kernel Extensions (Kexts):

    • Ensure that all required kexts are compatible with Sonoma.
    • Check for updated versions of kexts and replace them if necessary.
  5. Review ACPI Patches:

    • Examine ACPI patches applied to your DSDT/SSDT files. Incorrect or outdated patches can lead to Kernel Panic s.
    • Consider reapplying ACPI patches or adjusting them based on the latest guidelines.
  6. Check Graphics Configuration:

    • If you have a dedicated graphics card (Polaris), review your graphics settings in the EFI configuration.
    • Ensure that the graphics-related kexts are up to date and compatible with Sonoma.
  7. Boot Flags:

    • Experiment with different boot flags to troubleshoot the Kernel Panic .
    • Common flags include -v for verbose mode and -x for safe mode.
  8. Inspect Kernel Panic Details:

    • When a Kernel Panic occurs, take note of the details displayed on the screen.
    • Look for any specific error messages or information that can help identify the cause.
  9. Create a Bootable USB Installer:

    • Prepare a bootable USB installer with Sonoma.
    • Boot from the USB installer and attempt to upgrade again.
  10. Consider a Clean Install:

    • If troubleshooting doesn't resolve the issue, consider performing a clean install of Sonoma.
    • Backup important data before proceeding with a clean installation.
  11. Community Support:

    • Seek assistance from Hackintosh communities, forums, or Discord channels.
    • Other users may have encountered similar issues and can provide valuable insights and solutions.
