Introduction: If you're encountering issues while attempting to update your late 2012 Mac Mini from Success' href='/2020/12/install-macos-catalina-on-supported-pc.html'>Catalina to Ventura, you're not alone. This guide will help you troubleshoot the problem and hopefully get your update process back on track.
Step 1: Verify Compatibility and Requirements
- Make sure your Mac Mini 2012 meets the minimum system requirements for installing macOS Ventura.
- Check compatibility with your hardware components and any potential conflicts that may arise during the update process.
Step 2: Check Installation Media and Settings
- Ensure that your installation media for macOS Ventura is properly prepared and not corrupted.
- Check the integrity of the installation files and the method used to create the bootable USB drive.
- Verify that the bootable USB drive is correctly recognized by your Mac Mini during the boot process.
Step 3: Reset NVRAM and SMC
- Reset the Non-Volatile Random Access Memory (NVRAM) and System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac Mini.
- This can help resolve various boot and installation-related issues.
- Follow Apple's official guidelines for resetting NVRAM and SMC on your Mac Mini model.
Step 4: Boot in Safe Mode
- Try booting your Mac Mini in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key during startup.
- Safe Mode disables certain system extensions and performs additional checks during startup, which may help identify and resolve issues.
Step 5: Perform Disk Utility Checks
- Boot your Mac Mini into Recovery Mode by holding down Command + R during startup.
- Use Disk Utility in Recovery Mode to perform checks on your Mac's internal drive.
- Repair any disk errors or permissions issues that are detected.
Step 6: Clean Install macOS Ventura
- If all else fails, consider performing a clean installation of macOS Ventura.
- Back up your important data and perform a fresh installation of macOS Ventura using a bootable USB drive.
- Follow Apple's official instructions for creating a bootable installer and performing a clean install of macOS Ventura on your Mac Mini.
Conclusion: By following these troubleshooting steps, you should be able to diagnose and resolve the issue preventing your late 2012 Mac Mini from reaching the OS install stage for updating to macOS Ventura. If the problem persists, consider seeking assistance from Apple Support or consulting with experienced Hackintosh community members for further guidance.
Attempting to update from Success' href='/2020/12/install-macos-catalina-on-supported-pc.html'>Catalina to Ventura on a late 2012 Mac Mini. (I am a total Mac novice - bought this mac a couple of months ago as it had firewire and I needed to archive a load of old minidv tapes).
I restart with the option key held down, get to the boot menu, Pick EFI, then pick Install MacOS Ventura.
At this point, I get the Apple logo on screen for 5 minutes (ish), the mac reboots and then I'm back at the screen which has the option for Install Ventura, or the option to boot to my normal drive (but no EFI option).
This then just keeps looping - based on the youtube videos I should be getting an option to actually install the OS?
Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong?
