Guide:
If you're new to using OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP) and want to upgrade your Mac Pro 5,1 to macOS Sonoma, follow these steps to install OCLP and set up your system:
Download OpenCore Legacy Patcher:
- Visit the official GitHub repository for OCLP and download the latest release.
- Ensure you have a compatible version of macOS (e.g., Success' href='/2020/12/install-macos-catalina-on-supported-pc.html'>Catalina) already installed on your Mac Pro 5,1.
Prepare a USB Installer:
- Create a bootable USB installer for macOS Sonoma using a tool like DiskMaker X or Terminal commands.
- This USB installer will be used to install Sonoma on your Mac Pro 5,1 after applying OCLP.
Install OCLP:
- Run the OCLP installer and follow the on-screen instructions to install OCLP on your Success' href='/2020/12/install-macos-catalina-on-supported-pc.html'>Catalina system.
- OCLP will modify your system's EFI partition and create a new bootable environment for macOS Sonoma.
Select Default Bootloader:
- After installing OCLP, you can choose to set its EFI as the default bootloader for your Mac Pro 5,1.
- This will ensure that your system boots using OCLP's patched bootloader instead of the default macOS bootloader.
Reboot and Verify:
- Restart your Mac Pro 5,1 and verify that OCLP's bootloader appears during the boot process.
- You should see the OCLP boot menu, which allows you to choose between different macOS installations and other boot options.
Upgrade to Sonoma:
- Insert the USB installer for macOS Sonoma into your Mac Pro 5,1.
- Boot from the USB installer and proceed with the installation of macOS Sonoma on your desired HDD or SSD.
Post-Installation Setup:
- After installing Sonoma, reboot your Mac Pro 5,1 and ensure that it boots Success fully into the new operating system.
- You may need to adjust BIOS settings or perform additional configuration steps depending on your specific hardware and preferences.
By following these steps, you can install OCLP on your macOS Success' href='/2020/12/install-macos-catalina-on-supported-pc.html'>Catalina system for your Mac Pro 5,1 and upgrade to Sonoma with ease. Remember to back up your important data before performing any system modifications, and proceed with caution when modifying EFI partitions and bootloaders.
Hello there! I'm actually new of using OCLP in my mac pro 5,1. I use dosdude's patchers for Success' href='/2020/12/install-macos-catalina-on-supported-pc.html'>Catalina up until I decided to give OCLP a try to upgrade to Sonoma.
So I have all 4 of my hdd occupied with each one of them have different OS (except for the 1 to use for storage). My question is, do I have to install OCLP on each one of the hdd with macOS that needs OCLP? or I could just install OCLP to any one of them and make its EFI the default bootloader? Thanks!
