So I've been running macOS Ventura in a VM on TrueNAS Scale for a while now and it has been totally fine. Recently, I decided to add in an actual GPU (Sapphire RX 570) so I could use it as a desktop (was just using it as an iMessage bridge otherwise).
The machine boots up fine and graphics acceleration works perfectly. However, I'm having an issue: idle power draw from the GPU hovers between 40w and 50w.
What's very interesting is the GPU power usage seems to drop when I'm actually using the computer to between 20w and 30w, which is more in line with the expected idle draw for this model. As soon as the display is turned off though, it jumps back up to 40w to 50w.
I have the machine plugged into a smart switch with a power monitor, so these are all estimates based on what I know the actual idle power draw of this machine was before adding the GPU.
Anyone have any tips on how I can optimize this?
