2009 MBP, is reallllllllly slow running Monterey, was ok on Catalina

Upgrading all my old A1286, the oldest is just dreadfully slow.

Should I re-install Monterey from scratch or just give up and go back to Success' href='/2020/12/install-macos-catalina-on-supported-pc.html'>Catalina?
