2016 MBP. How can I get power management working without installing the root patches for the GPUs?

I have a 2016 MacBook Pro 13,2 running Sonoma 14.4.1 I used OCLP to make the installer and installed opencore to my ssd after install.

I did not install the root patches afterwards (see below for why) and now MacOS seems to have no idea how to manage the power settings and battery.

It constantly thinks the battery is low when it’s not, and will randomly throttle the CPU causing insanely laggy performance. The worst of it is that at least once a day the MacBook will just shutoff out of nowhere.

When it does shutdown, I have to wait quite a while before I can turn the MacBook back on and actually boot instead of seeing the red battery symbol.

Why no root patches:

The issue with installing the root patches is that I absolutely need my eGPU connected. I could frankly care less if the internal GPUs work or not. But the root patches for the internal GPUs kill my ability to use an eGPU. So it’s one or the other.

The eGPU is a Radeon Pro W5700 which is 100% natively supported by MacOS.
