Guide:
If you're experiencing random USB problems after updating to Sonoma 14.4 on your Hackintosh, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
Reset NVRAM and SMC: Resetting the NVRAM (non-volatile random-access memory) and SMC (system management controller) can sometimes resolve USB-related issues. To reset NVRAM, restart your computer and hold down Command + Option + P + R until you hear the startup sound again. To reset the SMC, shut down your computer, then hold down Shift + Control + Option + Power button for 10 seconds, and then release all keys simultaneously.
Check USB Port Mapping: Verify that your USB port mapping is correctly configured for Sonoma 14.4. USB port mapping ensures that each USB port on your motherboard is correctly recognized by macOS. You can use tools like Hackintool or USBMap to create or verify your USB port map.
Update USB-related Kexts: Ensure that your USB-related kexts (kernel extensions) are up to date and compatible with Sonoma 14.4. You may need to update or replace certain kexts to ensure proper USB functionality. Check online resources and forums for updated kexts specific to your motherboard or USB controller.
Check for Hardware Issues: Inspect your USB devices and cables for any physical damage or defects. Sometimes, faulty hardware can cause intermittent USB problems. Try connecting your USB devices to different ports or using different cables to rule out hardware issues.
Monitor System Logs: Check the system logs in Console.app for any error messages or warnings related to USB devices. This can provide insights into what might be causing the USB problems and help narrow down the issue.
Test in Safe Mode: Boot your Hackintosh into Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key during startup. Safe Mode disables third-party kernel extensions and startup items, which can help identify if a third-party extension is causing the USB issues.
Reinstall Sonoma 14.4: If all else fails, consider reinstalling Sonoma 14.4 to see if the USB problems persist. Make sure to back up your data before reinstalling the operating system.
Seek Community Support: Reach out to online forums and communities dedicated to Hackintosh users for additional support and troubleshooting assistance. Other users may have encountered similar USB problems and can provide valuable insights and solutions.
By following these troubleshooting steps, you can hopefully resolve the random USB problems you're experiencing after updating to Sonoma 14.4 on your Hackintosh.
USB Problems after 14.4 Update?
Wondering if anyone else is experiencing random USB problems after doing the Sonoma 14.4 update? I completely re-mapped my USB ports last fall when Sonoma 14.0 was released and @Edhawk was kind enough to verify my new map's integrity. No problems after that until I updated to 14.4 last week. Now it seems some USB device or another fails at random after cold startups: one day it was my Realtek USB audio, the next that was fine but my (wired) mouse wasn't working.Doing a quick restart after each occurrence solved both problems, but they never happened before the Sonoma 14.4 update.
