Reformatted my MacBook Pro 13,3 with Sonoma 14.4 (same version it was running before) now "MTLCompilerService" is crashing causing several important apps to crash the moment you open them.

MacBook Pro 13,3 (15-inch 2016)

  • 2.5GHz Core i7
  • 16GB LPDDR3
  • Intel HD 530
  • Radeon Pro 450
  • OpenCore Legacy Patcher 1.4.2
  • OpenCore and Root patches installed
  • MacOS Sonoma 14.4

I have been running Sonoma on this for months now and haven't had a single issue. Until now...

I decided to wipe my SSD and start fresh, spring cleaning I guess. Now my CAD program (Shapr3D) wont launch anymore, and it was previously running just fine (on Sonoma). Checking the console I can see that When Shapr3D crashes there is another process crashing that was called by Shapr3D called "MTLCompilerService".

I'm thinking it might have something to do with "Metal's Mesh Shader feature set not available" according to the OCLP Github. However the odd part is that Shapr3D has been running perfectly fine on both Sonoma and Ventura prior to that...Now all the sudden it's not working?

But I'm not even sure if that Github issue even applies to my situation since it says it affects GCN 1-3 and According to TechPowerUp the Radeon Pro 450 is GCN 4.

I tried going back to the last officially supported version of Monterey and Shapr3D opened and ran beautifully. Unfortunately going back to Monterey isn't an option since I have end-to-end encryption enabled on my iCloud account which isn't supported until MacOS Ventura 13.1 which means I can't login to my iCloud account at all on Monterey.

I have gone through all of the Dortania documentation, I tried googling the issue and found nothing. I got so desperate I even tried searching Bing! Heck I even asked ChatGPT and Gemini...Im at a total loss on why this was working perfectly fine before and now it's suddenly not.
