Hackintosh Guide: Fixing Oversized Video Resolution on Lenovo Ivy Bridge with GT630M + Intel HD

Guide Step by Step:

  1. Understanding the Issue: On your Lenovo with Ivy Bridge and GeForce GT630M + Intel HD Graphics, the video output is too large for the laptop's display but appears normal on an external TV. This suggests a resolution or scaling issue specific to the internal display.

  2. Check Your Display Settings: First, ensure that the display settings in macOS are set correctly for your laptop's screen. Go to System Preferences > Displays and check the resolution settings. It should match your laptop's native resolution.

  3. EFI Configuration Check: Since you've built an EFI that works well except for this issue, review your EFI configuration. Ensure that the correct screen resolution is set in your bootloader's configuration (like Clover or OpenCore).

  4. Graphics Configuration in config.plist: Since you're likely using the integrated GPU (Intel HD), check your config.plist for the correct settings under the Graphics section. Ensure that the ig-platform-id and device-id are correct for your Intel HD Graphics.

  5. Disable Dedicated GPU (if not in use): If you're not using the GeForce GT630M in macOS (since macOS may have limited support for it), ensure it's disabled to prevent any conflicts. This can be done via your config.plist under the ACPI > Add/Disable sections, or via DSDT/SSDT patches.

  6. NVRAM Reset: Sometimes, a simple NVRAM reset can resolve display issues. To do this, reboot your system and use the bootloader's interface to reset NVRAM.

  7. Scale Adjustment: Investigate if there's a scaling issue. macOS sometimes scales resolutions differently, especially on non-Apple displays. Look for scaling options in the Display settings.

  8. Test with Different macOS Versions: If the issue persists, consider testing with a different version of macOS. Some versions have better hardware support than others.

  9. Consult Hackintosh Communities: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, seek advice from Hackintosh forums and communities. Share your hardware details, EFI configuration, and describe the issue for specific guidance.

  10. Final Testing: After applying changes, thoroughly test your system. Check not only for the resolution issue but also for any other potential impacts on system performance or stability.

Remember, each Hackintosh build is unique, and what works for one set of hardware might not work for another. It's essential to approach each issue methodically, testing one change at a time.

Video too big for the display???
Video too big for the display???

I just built an efi and it all works perfectly except for the resolution. Even after setting it for the laptop's screen resolution, the video is taking twice the width of the screen. However, if I connect it to tv (as an external monitor), the video is completely normal

HW: Lenovo with ivy bridge and geforce gt630m+intel hd (i think I use the igpu)
