Troubleshooting Internet Connectivity Issues in macOS Monterey on Mac Mini 2011

Losing internet connectivity after installing macOS Monterey on a Mac Mini 2011 using a legacy patcher like OpenCore Legacy Patcher is a common issue, often related to driver or kext (kernel extension) incompatibilities. Here's a guide to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue. This guide is tailored for users with an intermediate level of technical skill.

Steps to diagnose and fix internet connectivity issues encountered after installing macOS Monterey via a legacy patcher on a Mac Mini 2011.

  1. Check Kexts: Ensure that the necessary network kexts are included in your OpenCore Legacy Patcher configuration. This typically involves Wi-Fi and Ethernet kexts compatible with Monterey.
  2. Reapply Patches: Use the latest version of the legacy patcher to reapply patches, focusing on network-related ones.
  3. Reset NVRAM: Boot into recovery mode and reset the NVRAM. This can resolve issues caused by old or corrupted settings.
  4. Ethernet Cable Test: Although you’ve tried this, ensure the cable and router ports are functioning correctly by testing with another device.
  5. Wi-Fi Hardware Check: Verify if the Wi-Fi module is recognized in System Information. If not, the hardware may be incompatible with Monterey.
  6. Alternative Networking Solutions: Consider using a compatible USB Ethernet or Wi-Fi adapter as a temporary solution.
  7. Community Assistance: Consult forums like MacRumors or tonymacx86 for specific advice related to the Mac Mini 2011 and Monterey.

Note: Older Mac models may have hardware components that are not fully compatible with newer macOS versions, which can lead to connectivity issues.

Followed Tech Nolli's video and used Opencore legacy patcher to install Monterey. Computer boots up from the usb boot disk fine now, but no internet connectivity. Wifi is on, but shows no available networks. (It is sitting right next to the router.) Have plugged in ethernet cable, doesn't change anything.

I'm at a loss as to how to "wake up" the internet so that I can move forward with the rest of the install.

Any suggestions?
