First time hackintosh: Resolving Performance, Monitor, and Network Issues on First-Time Hackintosh Setup

Solution:

Based on the issues you're experiencing with your Hackintosh running macOS Ventura, here are some targeted solutions:

  1. Slow Performance Issue:

    • The lag in performance might be due to incorrect or missing kexts (kernel extensions), especially for your video setup. Ensure you have the right kexts for your graphics card and chipset. Lack of hardware acceleration could cause sluggish performance.
  2. Monitor Detection Issue:

    • The problem with your monitor not being detected properly could also relate to incorrect graphics configuration. Ensure your graphics card's kexts are correctly installed and configured. Sometimes, adjusting the display settings within macOS or using a tool like SwitchResX can help you set the correct resolution and refresh rate.
  3. Ethernet Connection Issue:

    • Generally, macOS automatically sets up wired network connections on desktop computers. Check if the Ethernet chipset on your motherboard is compatible with macOS. If macOS does not recognize your Ethernet adapter, you might need to find and install the correct kext for it.
  4. Bluetooth and WiFi for Continuity and Handoff:

    • Continuity and Handoff features require specific WiFi and Bluetooth hardware that is compatible with macOS. You may need to replace your existing WiFi/Bluetooth card with a macOS-compatible one or use a compatible USB dongle.
  5. General Troubleshooting Steps:

    • Update your Hackintosh kexts and OpenCore/Clover bootloader to the latest versions.
    • Ensure your BIOS settings are optimized for Hackintosh use (e.g., AHCI mode for SATA, disabling virtualization features, etc.).
    • Run a verbose boot (-v) to identify any obvious errors during startup.
  6. Seeking Further Assistance:

    • If these steps don't resolve the issues, consider posting detailed information about your build and the issues on Hackintosh forums for community assistance.

Visual Aids: Providing screenshots of your BIOS settings, verbose boot screen, and system report from macOS can help when seeking assistance from online communities.

Additional Note: Hackintosh setups can be complex, and hardware compatibility varies greatly. Community forums are valuable resources for finding solutions tailored to specific hardware configurations.

I know I've posted a lot since last night, but this community has been very helpful and I appreciate you all! I just figured out the manual boot option, so now I can boot into Windows or MacOS without having to use the external thumb drive. Here are a couple of problems that I have not been able to figure out since I got it working:

  1. As stated first, overall things are just running slow. When I try to minimize or even close something, there is about a second of lag before anything happens. This is making me wonder if I have done something wrong in the installation process, or if it may be related to the next issues.
  2. It's not properly detecting my monitor. I have a Lenovo 34" ultrawide monitor, 3440x1440p, 144Hz that is normally plugged in through Display Port 1.4 for windows. I also have a secondary monitor that uses an HDMI connection. I have tried plugging in the main monitor through HDMI and changing it to that through the on screen display, but it doesn't work. So in MacOS, it is locked on an "unknown monitor," and at 1080p, so everything is stretched. I can't figure out how to fix this.
  3. I can't get it connected to the internet. I use an ethernet cable, and it apparently isn't detecting it automatically, and I have absolutely no idea how to set it up manually. Also, I am hoping to get bluetooth and wifi working so that I can use the continuity features such as handoff.

Thanks everyone!
