Hi All,

I recently had an impulse to build my first hackintosh (and PC).
While searching for info I seem to struggle with finding a nice and organized website that is the holy grail of hackintosh's, so I have been aggregating a lot since.
I guess the overall answer of hackintoshes is: Buy hardware that Apple uses.
However, since I have no experience with Hackintosh I based myself on:
https://github.com/SchmockLord/Hackintosh-Intel-i9-10900k-AsRock-Z490-Phantom-ITX-TB3

Build
So I chose for a mini ITX and put it in a NZXT H1.

I should have done my homework with regards to the motherboard combination.
The motherboard has 2 M.2 slots, one on the front, one on the back.
Both slots cause for a problem with the case:

  1. The slot on the front is part of an extra board that sits on the motherboard.
    1. Issue: the cooling that comes with the case is blocked and can't close the case.
    2. Solution: Remove the board, and basically give up 1 m.2 slot.
  2. The slot in the back
    1. Issue: the backplate that needs to be installed for the CPU cooler goes over the m.2 slot
    2. Solution: remove some parts of the backplate, I used a cutting pliers, was easy enough.

Initially I was opting for the Sapphire RX 5700XT, but that might have been too big for the case.
The Gigabyte variant fits nicely and seem to be doing just fine.

Installation
I guess a lot of people go for the previous OS as its more stable, I didn't like Catalina on my MacBook as I had several issues with it initially, so I didn't feel like relying on the year of updates and went straight for Big Sur.

However with Mac it seems you still need to make an additional choice: OpenCore VS Clover.
Also here I found a lot of discussions about, Clover seemed to be more user friendly but less performing, OpenCore seemed an issue for a lot of newbies.
I decided to go for OpenCore, I could have always tried Clover in case I couldn't get it to work.

I watched a bunch of videos of this channel:

Rather quickly I booted into a Recovery screen, now this is where I started to struggle.
I was using a wireless keyboard (Logitech Crown) with a wireless mouse Logitech MX2.
In the bios I was able to control the menu using the keyboard, so I thought I could proceed.
Unfortunately on the Recovery screen I could only open a logging section and navigate in that section.
The option to format the disk and install Big Sur I couldn't select with the keyboard.

My mouse was unresponsive during this whole process, in the BIOS and the recovery screen.
An all-nighter later I gave up, trying all possible gambles with OpenCore configurator.
The next day, I tried 2 different wireless mouses, where one of the 2 seemed to react a bit.
It struggled moving the cursor, but it moved it.
Using the default EFI from the gitlab (MacPro 1,1), and adding some extensions, I managed to install BigSur.
After the installation I connected my MX 2 mouse using the Logitech dongle.

Current state
I need to say I'm surprised with where I'm at, but it still need to improve a bit.

  • Videocard
    • Apple TV+ Playing without issues
    • Got 2 monitors connected to the video card:
      • 4K LG Screen
      • 1080p Dell
  • Memory allocated
  • USB ports all working, including Thunderbolt.
  • Using the native AX201 WIFI/BT card (Explicitly using https://openintelwireless.github.io/itlwm/)
    • Connected to WIFI, using Heliport,
      • speed is horrible: getting 10-20Mbit where I have 270Mbit on my MacBook
    • Bluetooth working partially
      • My Sony WH-1000mx3 is connected
      • My Logi Keyboard/Mouse do not.
      • With my keyboard and mouse, the connection is still not 100%, having some jitter at times.
    • Audio, I'm playing some Spotify right now over bluetooth.
      • However it seems bluetooth input isn't working yet.
      • The ports I haven't checked.
  • Ethernet to be verified, but recognized
  • Sleep and wake is working.

Optimizing
Even though Bluetooth and WIFI is functional, I did order a BCM94360NG M.2 stick to replace the AX201.
Hopefully this will solve my bluetooth issues where my mouse has this enjoying jitter and my headset input audio isn't working...

In case you have any suggestions on how I can fix the issues, please let me know and I'll try.
It would be nice to be able to use the native network card, but the speed was already mentioned on the git page, but my mouse/keyboard not connecting is a different issue.
