I've been a musician that uses a computer for live performance for a while. After using a macbook pro for years, I decided that the thermal management just wasn't good enough to be reliable in any performance situation. I am pushing the limits of the tech, using a lot of plugins and samplers and stuff so I need a machine that can perform well at any temp.
I built I semi portable rig using a small desktop case, with a noctua cooler and a 9900k processor. It is amazing, but I'm starting to do some international travel and need a more portable solution.
I have found that the 9900k seems completely overboard for audio...other aspects of the computer seem to bottleneck way before the cpu gets bogged down, so I think I could switch to a laptop that has proper thermal management.
Do you guys have any recommendations for an extremely performant (for audio, not gaming), thermally reliable laptop? The XPS 15 keeps coming up in my searches but I hardly trust Dell.
