Wireless Adapter Failure?

I've been using an Archer T6E card without issues for the past year. I have been using kexts to allow my Mac to detect it, and my windows 10 partition did not need any modification for it to work.

Last week in the middle of regular use, my wifi loses connection and will not reconnect, despite being able to scan and show the wifi networks in the dropdown list. They do connect if they are within a foot of the router.

Thinking that was indicative of interference, I used the scanner diagnostic tool but it shows that my wifi were solid and the strongest signals in the area. When I switched to my windows partition (its a dual boot, its not virtualized within Mac), I saw it had the same issue. Which leads me to think this is a hardware issue.

I took out the card and hit it with some compressed air but that did not change anything. I'm not sure what the problem could be, any suggestions?

Of course, I have already unplugged and reconnected my router

summary:

  • card was stable with proper kexts/patches for past year
  • Abruptly can scan (see) but cannot connect to wifis
  • UNLESS it is within a foot range
  • happens in Mac and windows 10
  • other devices do not have this issue in the affected area
