Virtualization advice: Better than VirtualBox?

Recently got High Sierra running virtually on HP ProBook 5330m in 1024x768. Native resolution of the laptop is 1366x768.

Should I futz with VirtualBox to get the correct resolution? Or use some other tool? Or run it native?

I finally have some sense of what virtual might feel like... the mouse pointer seems laggy and getting the exact right resolution seems tricky.

Are these issues that go away with a properly configured virtual Mac? Is there a right + best way to do it?
