I found freezing on the bootloader to be a issue with many of my hp laptops using a regular bios eg my DV7, My DM4. Instead of UEFI like my other HP Probook laptop. I got it to not freeze one time by plugging in a usb drive before power on. (USB CD Drive) however it didn't show much promise the Alps trackpad didnt work and will probably continue to freeze on the bootloader. but it worked (Didn't freeze) when I plugged an external cd drive in (No disc in it). try pluging in a usb flash or cd drive. sounds weird but it worked on mine, I was like what the heck?
