Guide: When it comes to choosing between the Radeon Pro W5700 and the reference RX 5700 for your Hackintosh, there are a few factors to consider. Both GPUs are based on the same underlying architecture, but there are some differences in terms of performance and compatibility with macOS.
Performance: In terms of raw performance, the reference RX 5700 may offer slightly better gaming performance compared to the Radeon Pro W5700. This is because the reference RX 5700 is optimized for gaming and comes with higher clock speeds out of the box.
Compatibility: Both GPUs are compatible with macOS, but the Radeon Pro W5700 may offer better compatibility and stability for professional applications due to its workstation-oriented design. However, for general usage and gaming on a Hackintosh, either GPU should work fine with the appropriate drivers and configuration.
I/O Ports: One notable difference between the two GPUs is the I/O ports. The Radeon Pro W5700 is typically equipped with a variety of display outputs, including DisplayPort and HDMI, suitable for professional workstations. On the other hand, the reference RX 5700 may have a more standard set of display outputs geared towards gaming.
Benefits of Pro Model: While you mentioned that you don't do video editing, the Radeon Pro W5700 may still offer some benefits for tasks such as music production in Logic Pro. Professional GPUs like the W5700 are often optimized for workstation tasks and may provide better performance and stability in certain applications, especially those that rely on GPU acceleration.
Ultimately, the choice between the Radeon Pro W5700 and the reference RX 5700 comes down to your specific needs and preferences. If you prioritize gaming performance and compatibility for general usage on your Hackintosh, the reference RX 5700 may be the better option. However, if you value stability and potential benefits for professional applications, the Radeon Pro W5700 could be worth considering.
Hey 👋 I want to upgrade from my RX 5600 XT MSI Gaming X to a RX 5700 because it seems that my 5600 XT is starting to wear down/die (I get artifacts now which I’ve never had before + the GPU is 5 years old now). So I wanted to ask what would be better for my Hackintosh as I could either buy a Radeon Pro W5700 or the normal reference RX 5700 for each being the same price of 199€. What would be the difference besides the I/O ports for macOS performance and could there be any benefits gained by using the pro model ? I don’t do any video editing or anything but maybe it can help in some logic task for my music ? :D
