Windows 10 can't read GPT formatting

I formatted an external drive in MacOS as ExFAt-GUID, and windows 10 doesn't initiate the drive when plugged in. In disk management all options to assign drive letters are greyed out. Only the option to turn the 'basic' disk into an 'active' one is available, but for fear of data corruption I decided not to touch it.

But if formatted as ExFAT-MBR Win10 has no problems seeing it.

Does windows have difficulty reading drives partitioned via GPT?
