Catalina 10.15.2 with Many Challeneges

SUCCESS!!!!!!!!

Fully Vanilla install of Mac OS Catalina. I partly wanted to make this to gloat and partly to share what I have learned.

My Specs: ASUS Z390-I Gaming Motherboard 32 GB DDR4 RAM Intel Core i7-8700K NVIDIA RTX 2080 (manually disabled, explained later) Crucial M500 SSD

For those of you that want to install Mac OS Catalina on your machines here is what I recommend.

First, make sure you can. Not every machine can run Mac OS, so do your research before hand.

Second, follow this guide:

https://hackintosh.gitbook.io/-r-hackintosh-vanilla-desktop-guide/

It is very well written and explains it simple enough so you can understand but yet not to simple to where you can’t create something with it. It is very valuable so follow it to a T.

Next, the most confusing and hardest things to find for me was Kexts. This is a great webpage explaining what you need for what. It’s helpful to have the specs of your motherboard on hand.

Here are some problems I ran into and how I fixed them.

First, I have an incompatible GPU for Mac (RTX 2080) so my first challenge was that so I followed this reddit thread and it worked well.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/hackintosh/comments/bu1wf8/how_to_disable_your_unsupported_gpu_for_macos/

Second, I was getting stuck at Apfs_module_start_1683 when booting from the usb stick. Which it turned out I needed a certain file as explained in this forum. That fixed it.

Next, I ran into an issue where the Mac OS installer would freeze at 2 minutes exactly. This was solved using this thread by downloading and putting EmuVariableUefi-64.efi in EFI/Clover/drivers64UEFI

Lastly and this is the one that took me the longest. When I booted with Intel UHD 630 graphics my screen was orange and was very glitchy with random white and black boxes. This was eventually fixed by reconfiguring my SMBIOS in my Config.plist with a new serial number.

As of right now:

Bluetooth is not working All of iCloud is working including iMessage, file sharing, FaceTime etc. Ethernet is working Have not tested WiFi because I don’t need it

Probably won’t try to do any more configuration as everything I need is working.
