CSM and you - or, Get rid of “cannot allocate your sanity” errors.

Building a Hackintosh? Following a Z390 “guide?”

Are you running multiple monitors?

Are you running High Sierra?

Are you running an Nvidia card?

Chances are you’re probably running into ramdisk allocation errors at boot either intermittently or 9/10. Especially if you have monitors attached to DP.

Sure you can just unplug your monitors and plug them in again after you reach desktop like a schmuck. Yes there may be a viable efi method or ACPI fix or patch to get around this issue - but the issue stems from CSM being disabled.

I just wrestled with this obstacle for 3 days and determined the easiest thing is to keep it on for booting into macOS or you just invite pain. Oh my god the pain.

Use “CSM -> disabled” to install UEFI windows if dual booting then switch it back on. It will still show up in clover menu and is still bootable without issues.

You’re welcome. Hopefully I’ve helped some of you not suffer the same utter frustration I have. L

If anyone has an actual work around that works that doesn’t involve x99 kexts it efis that don’t work with z390 boards and i9s - by all means prove me wrong. I not only welcome it I beg you to do so.
