Getting Nvidia GT 710 Working on Mac Pro 3,1

Overview: The Nvidia GT 710 is a low-end graphics card that is compatible with macOS, but getting it to work on a Mac Pro 3,1 (Early 2008) may require some additional steps due to compatibility and driver issues. Here's a guide to help you get your GT 710 up and running on your Mac Pro:

1. Check Compatibility:

  • Confirm that your Nvidia GT 710 is compatible with macOS. While the GT 710 is generally supported, certain models or firmware versions may have limited compatibility.

2. Install Nvidia Web Drivers:

  • Download and install the appropriate Nvidia Web Drivers for your macOS version. These drivers provide support for Nvidia GPUs on macOS. Ensure that you install the correct version corresponding to your macOS version.

3. Disable SIP (System Integrity Protection):

  • Boot into recovery mode by holding down Command + R during startup.
  • Open Terminal from the Utilities menu.
  • Enter the command csrutil disable and press Enter.
  • Restart your Mac Pro.

4. Install Nvidia Drivers:

  • After disabling SIP, install the Nvidia Web Drivers that you downloaded earlier. Follow the installation instructions provided by Nvidia.

5. Configure Graphics Settings:

  • Once the drivers are installed, go to System Preferences > Nvidia Driver Manager.
  • Configure the graphics settings according to your preferences and monitor setup.

6. Check System Profiler:

  • Open System Information from the Utilities folder.
  • Navigate to Graphics/Displays and verify that your Nvidia GT 710 is detected and recognized by macOS.

7. Troubleshoot Boot Issues:

  • If you encounter boot issues or a black screen, try booting with the -v (verbose mode) and -x (safe mode) flags to diagnose any potential issues during startup.
  • Ensure that your GT 710 is properly seated in the PCIe slot and that all power connectors are securely connected.

8. Community Support:

  • Visit online forums and communities dedicated to Hackintosh and Mac Pro users. Others may have encountered similar issues and can offer assistance or troubleshooting tips.

9. Consider Alternative Solutions:

  • If you continue to experience difficulties with the GT 710, consider alternative graphics card options that are known to be compatible with the Mac Pro 3,1. Older AMD Radeon cards or Nvidia GPUs with native macOS support may provide better compatibility.

10. Professional Assistance: - If all else fails, consider seeking professional assistance from a Mac technician or service provider who has experience with Mac Pro hardware and Hackintosh setups.

Follow these steps to install and configure your Nvidia GT 710 graphics card on your Mac Pro 3,1. With the right drivers and configuration, you should be able to get your GPU up and running smoothly on macOS.

Mac Pro 3,1 with GT 710

Hi, I just got an Mac Pro 2008, i mainly needed it for storage and programming. The ideea is that it didn’t come with a graphics card and i got an Zotac Nvidia GT 710, which i tough is compatible, but i can’t seem to get it working in any version of MacOS, nor in Open Core Boot Selector. I can’t really seem to get an Mac Original graphics card, at least not at an affordable price. Any help getting the Mac up and working with the GT 710?
