Help! Unable to Load MacOS without USB drive

Hello All! I have a Mac Pro 5,1 that’s using a unflashed Radeon RX 580 GPU.

I’ve installed Monterey with OpenCore, created the EFI Mount (moved opencore from usb to macOS drive), but since I can’t access the picker screen (hold ‘Options’ key after startup), it keeps booting into USB drive. It doesn’t even failover to my MacOS.

What do I do?

  1. To fix the issue where your Mac Pro 5,1 with an unflashed Radeon RX 580 GPU only boots from the USB drive and not from the macOS drive, follow these steps:

    1. Start Up in Recovery Mode: Restart your Mac and immediately hold down `Command` + `R` until you see an Apple logo or spinning globe. This will boot your Mac into Recovery Mode.

    2. Check Startup Disk**: Once in Recovery Mode, go to `Utilities` in the menu bar, and select `Startup Disk`. Make sure your macOS drive is selected as the startup disk.

    3. Repair Disk Permissions**: Open `Disk Utility` in Recovery Mode. Select your macOS drive and perform `First Aid` to repair any disk permissions issues.

    4. Reinstall Bootloader**: If the issue persists, reinstall the bootloader on your macOS drive. This can be done using the Terminal in Recovery Mode, using the appropriate commands for your bootloader (e.g., Clover, OpenCore).

    5. Check EFI Partition**: Make sure the EFI partition on your macOS drive is correctly configured and contains the necessary bootloader files. You might need to manually copy these files from the USB drive to the EFI partition on the macOS drive.

After completing these steps, restart your Mac without the USB drive inserted and see if it boots directly into macOS. If the problem continues, consider seeking professional technical support, as the issue might be more complex.
