Have been looking at upgrading the CPU and mobo in my hack tower in the near future and one thing that’s caught my eye is the ability that some Z390 boards have to pass DisplayPort from a discrete GPU through the board’s TB3 ports. This is pretty cool because in theory, it’d let me use 5K+ monitors like the LG Ultrafine and Pro Display XDR.
Does this sort of passthrough work under macOS? I can’t seem to find this info anywhere (or I’m using the wrong search terms). If not, it might make more sense to stick with my current setup and save up for a real Mac that can drive a 5k+ TB3 display.
