Can't connect to network in net installer

I'm trying to install macOS on my Dell Inspiron laptop using the net install method mentioned in the side bar. I've been able to boot into the installer fine and the utilities page opens up alright. But there's no symbols on the top bar for any network setup. I have kexts for wired LAN, wifi (Not sure if it works) as well as HoRNDIS for USB tethering. The network utility shows three interfaces: the ethernet device (en0) and two unnamed interfaces labelled 'Item 2' and 'Item 3', which I presume are the wifi and USB interfaces. There's no way connect to wifi and USB tethering doesn't seem to work. The installer has a terminal so I was trying to use that. But the networksetup utility isn't present and that seems to be the recommended way to setup network from terminal. Any other method to setup a network connection? Can't proceed with a network install without a connection obviously.
