Trying to get Snow Leopard 16.0 working on an HP Mini 1000 Netbook

So, firstly let me state the CPU it's using, plus other specs:

Intel Atom CPU N270 @1.60GHz, came preinstalled. If you don't already know, it's of the i386 architecture.

An SSD of about 16 GB, came preinstalled

About 1.5 or 2 GB of ram? Can't exactly remember right now, but it also came preinstalled.

Now, I'll tell the story so far.

I found this gude: https://web.archive.org/web/20160829032537/http://www.mymacnetbook.com/2010/03/16/guide-to-installing-mac-os-x-snow-leopard-10-6-2-on-a-hp-mini-1000-or-compaq-mini-700/

Had a friend with a Mac make a USB for me, with journaling turned off and with AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext and AppleIntelCPUPowerManagementClient.kext removed, as they were causing a kernel panic at boot.

I had journaling turned off, as if it was on I'd only be able to get read-only access on the USB drive with linux. (I don't have my own Mac. Not yet at least!)

Essentially, the drive is a carbon copy of the retail SN 16.0 DVD but without the aformentioned kexts.

Now, here's what happens:

HP Mini boots from USB drive

HDD icon shows up, with a loading bar (I can just interrupt that with space to either choose a different drive to boot from, or specify boot options like -v and -x)

Screen goes blank, white

Apple logo appears

Loading icon appears under apple logo

Screen goes black, but has a mouse cursor that I can move with a USB mouse, but the trackpad on the netbook itself doesn't do anything

Mouse cursor turns into beachball/pinwheel, you know the one.

Nothing happens afterwards, aside from the cursor disappearing after a minute or so if I don't move it.

Yes, I've tried safe mode, (-x) that doesn't change the outcome, and verbose mode (-v) doesn't tell me anything useful, because once the black screen with the cursor appears, it doesn't print out anything. Before that, it just lists all the files it loads (and it throws the lines on the screen faster than I can read them) and then doesn't really give any errors.

Is there something I'm missing? Or is there something else preventing the setup assistant from loading?

I CAN add/remove files from the drive, so please, any help is appreciated.
