Is it possible to have a hackintosh run off an external HDD/SSD?

I have a Dell XPS 7590 that I would like to primarily use with Windows, but would like to do some iOS app development.

And it looks like my laptop should be able to be a hackintosh. I am primarily a Windows user, but would like to do some app development (hobby-ish) for iOS devices. I was hoping that I could keep my laptop primarily as a windows machine, and have a hackintosh external drive.

Any help/pointing towards help is very much appreciated.

Apologies if this doesn't make much sense, it's been a long ass day and I'm drowning my feelings in alcohol.
