In February, I built my first Hackintosh (and PC) and am quiet happy with it ever since. Of course, much credit goes to this very community! It is a dualboot machine, so I use Windows for games and macOS for everyday stuff and work.
The other day I was asked on one of my guide posts here whether my Hackintosh has 3D acceleration. I went and tried one of my games (Hitman 1) on macOS and indeed it is quiet laggy when looking around and moving the character; on Windows I, of course, have no issues. So, I guess, 3D acceleration indeed doesn't work. As I do graphics intense things on Windows I don't care much, but naturally I want a fully working Hackintosh... I looked into the issue and discovered on the quiet new Dortania OpenCore Guide, that my Graphics Card, the Powercolor RX 5700 XT 8GB Red Devil is actually said to be avoided (contrary to recommendations of this community in December):
the specific brand to avoid 100% is Powercolor [...] regardless of what core they runs. They're the most common GPUs to have instability issues and many users will outright not get any video out past the Clover boot-screen making a macOS install virtually impossible.
But up until today - that 3D acceleration issue - I have had not a single graphical issue on my Hackintosh... So here are my questions:
- Am I just lucky or do I not see the issues that actually are there?
- Am I at risk that a future macOS update will render this graphics card useless for macOS?
- Is my 3D acceleration problem related to this very graphics card model or have I forgotten to tweak something? If I can solve this without switching cards, how (a link would suffice)? Is this related?
