First attempt: OTA update, kernal panic as soon as Apple logo displays
Second attempt: Partitioned drive and installed Catalina fresh however I chose to migrate files from the other install and got the same kernal panic
Third attempt: Fresh Catalina install on formatted partition. Boots to desktop no problem and just had to manually copy files over from the other partition
Hope this helps anyone stuck as I was for a couple nights
