Hackintosh “Settings”

Hey all,

I have a hackintosh. I can go into build and all that a little later if I need to, but I had a general question regarding hackintosh setups.

Back in 2015 I had my hackintosh put together by someone who really knew what they were doing. They tested the machine for a bunch of different things (from what i understand, he did a lot of manual tuning to make sure the OS would be as stable as possible) I’ve since lost the contact info for the guy.

I remember asking him if the things he was doing were things I could do on my own. He said it’d be best if i just got ahold of him if I ran into any issues.

I had a small convo about unibeast? Multibeast? And he said not to use it because you’ll just run into trouble and have the background files thrown all over the computer and you wouldn’t know what’s what. He explained to me that there were two ways to put these machines together, the easy way that most people do, and the right way that most people don’t know how to do/don’t take the time to do. He assured me that the way he was doing it was the best possible way to put together a hackintosh. I believed him and the computer did run pretty flawlessly for years.

I wanted to experiment and start from scratch on my own so I bought a new hard drive and tried to install Yosemite. To my surprise I was able to get to it up and running pretty well. It took a lot of fiddling with but I got it to work. I still get the feeling though that background files are probably all messed up, and that the system is ridden with small bugs. The big obvious one I’ve found so far is the sleep/audio issue a lot of people talk about. Still haven’t found a fix for that.

My question is this:

I still have the old hardrive with all of the tuning that the original guy did. Is there any way to reverse his steps and see what it was that he did to fine tune the system like he did, on my new hard drive?

Does his explanation regarding two types of installation processes make sense? He seemed like a very trustworthy person so I assume there’s some truth to that.
