[LAPTOP] HP-15AB219TX [Dual Boot]

Hello 😃.

Hardware:

  • CPU : Intel Core i5 5th Gen - 5200U (Broadwell)
  • iGPU : Intel HD Graphics 5500
  • dGPU : NVIDIA GeForce 940M [Maxwell Arch] (this is the component that i'm most confused about)
  • RAM : 10 GB DDR3 1600 MHz (8 GB Samsung Stick & 2 GB Micron Stick)
  • Laptop Model : HP Pavilion 15 AB219TX (MoBo : HP 8096)
  • Audio Codec : Realtek ALC 290 HDA
  • Ethernet Card : Realtek RTL 8139 / 810x Fast Ethernet Adapter
  • Wifi/BT Card : Realtek RTL 8723 BE (WLAN 802.11n) (I know this probably won't be supported; willing to use with Ethernet or USB Tethering)
  • Storage Setup :
  1. Samsung 860 Evo 250 GB 2.5" SATA SSD (contains Windows 10)
  2. HGST 1 TB 2.5" HDD (mostly Storage)
  3. Seagate 320 GB 2.5" HDD (mostly unused; plan to use this for testing)

  • Once, I am sure I got everything right I plan to dual boot macOS with Windows 10 on the SSD
  • What guide/tool followed : I plan to give this guide on TonyMacX86 for a similar laptop model a try. (Issues with the said guide : Clover and somewhat outdated, I'm willing to rerun with the updated Dortania Guides for OpenCore & Laptops after trying the previous one. Also, open for suggestions to skip the previous TonyMacX86 guide altogether.)
  • What part I got an issue with : Technically, I haven't yet fiddled with on HDD installation of macOS yet. The part I'm most concerned with is the dGPU, I am willing to disable it in macOS as I'm aware Catalina and some other recent ones don't seem to support them (glad to be wrong), provided the iGPU runs it smoothly (Screen Res.: 1366 x 768). Also, willing to give an slightly older version of macOS a try for the dGPU.
  • What files/config I am using : Gathering resources on this. I think I'll be able to do this; help or tips highly appreciated, too. Thanks a lot, in advance.
  • Extra Info : Mostly covered; plan to update if something comes up later. Also. l plan to use macOS mostly for SW Development (besides my existing Windows 10 setup). Also, I can use Windows, Linux or macOS (have a running VM instance) for tasks like prepping the bootable installer USB, etc. Do not have a "real" Mac, though.

Heartfelt Thanks & Gratitude for everyone contributing to the Hackintosh Community.
