I finally got sick of being stuck on High Sierra with a GTX1070, so after doing some research and finding out the latest version of Catalina supported them, I decided to go with the 5700XT. Problem is, I can't get it working. Currently I have a working install of Catalina that I can use with my old GTX760 no problem, but if I swap it for the 5700, I get a gIOLockScreenState error during boot.
I was having various problems post-upgrade and thought it might be due to seven years of accumulated crap in my EFI folder, so I reinstalled everything from scratch following the vanilla guide to the letter.
I've googled aroun
Details:
The SMBIOS definition I'm using is iMac 13,2.
The kexts I have installed are the latest versions of:
- AppleALC
- IntelMausi
- Lilu
- SMCProcessor/SMCSuperIO (from the VirtualSMC package)
- USBInjectAll
- VirtualSMC
- WhateverGreen
Things I have tried:
- Making sure GPU inject boot args are disabled
- Adding adgpmode=pikera (although this shouldn't be necessary with newer versions of WhateverGreen)
- Disabling the iGPU completely in the BIOS
- Switching from DisplayPort to HDMI
Hardware:
- Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP5 TH
- CPU: i7 3700k
- GPU: Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB NITRO+
