About iATKOS Project [ Wikipedia ]

OSx86 (from Mac OS X and x86) is a collaborative hacking project to run the Mac OS X computer operating system on non-Apple personal computers with x86 architecture and x86-64 compatible processors. The effort started soon after the June 2005 Worldwide Developers Conference announcement that Apple would be transitioning its personal computers from PowerPC to Intel microprocessors. A computer built to run this type of Mac OS X is also known as a Hackintosh, a portmanteau of the word "hack" and the name of Apple's main brand of computers, Macintosh. Hackintoshed notebook computers are also referred to as "Hackbooks". The Apple software license does not allow Mac OS X to be used on a computer that is not "Apple-branded". The legality of this form of tying is disputed by companies such as Psystar, Bizon computer, PearC and MacPC who have attempted to release products using Mac OS on non Apple-machines. However, Apple claims the methods it uses to prevent M...
Installing and Removing Fonts in Mac OS X Lion and Snow Leopard
Image
Managing fonts on the Mac is incredibly easy regardless of what system software version you are using. We’lll cover the process of installing new fonts, deleting unwanted ones, and also restoring your default system fonts in case you mess something up. Installing New Fonts in Mac OS X Installing new fonts is very easy. All you need to do is: Double-click on the font.ttf file Click on “Install Font” When you double click on a font file, other than being able to install it, you’ll also see a font character preview showing the font face. This window will also let you preview any stylized versions (bold, italic, etc) of the font that are available and tell you if it’s installed or not. This is done through the Font Book app, which can also be launched separately to manage your typefaces. Removing Fonts from Mac OS X Installed an ugly font and decide you don’t want it anymore? Back in Font Book we can easily uninstall them: Launch Font Book (located in /Applications/) and use the Search fun...

Change Log from L1 to L2: - 10.7.2 main system > Finally, Lion main system is completely OK for this release, though we are running it on real Macs. We discovered that previous release L1 and most retail installations starting from 10.7.0 have problems, especially for sandybridge hardware, tested on real Macs.. Upgrade installations from Snow Leopard are OK but they work slower than usual. :arrow:I recommend iATKOS L2 release or retail installs using only the full 10.7.2 retail package. - Bootloaders updated > Chameleon 2.1 svn r1650, Chimera 1.6 - DVD boot > updated to Chameleon 2.1 svn r1650, patched IOPCIFamily driver added, Non-AHCI ICHX SATA/IDE driver added, AHCI SATA driver updated, npci=0x2000 flag added - Updated drivers, packages > /Extra/Extensions option removed AHCI SATA driver updated Intel Non-AHCI ICHX SATA/IDE driver added SSD Trim support added USB 3.0 driver updated PS/2 driver updated and laptop keyboard problem solved Laptop Battery driver added GF100 ...

SNOW LEOPARD TO LION OSX ??
Image
Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 was Apple's first release that includes universal kernel support for Sandy Bridge systems. Performing a Combo Update on these rigs can cause system crashes and general instability. We've created this simple guide that will allow any Socket 1155 Sandy Bridge system to update cleanly to 10.6.8 and be ready for Lion. 1. Install and configure system using iBoot + MultiBeast 2. Run UpdateHelper 3. Reboot 4. Run 10.6.8 Combo Update 5. Reboot What's causing the kernel panic? Mac OS X doesn't recognize Sandy Bridge systems, as every one was shipped with a special version of 10.6.7. Since we use either the 10.6 or 10.6.3 retail DVD, then try to update to 10.6.8 it doesn't know what to do with certain configurations as it's completing the update, and crashes. UpdateHelper deletes the ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext from IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext plugins folder (in System/Library/Extensions). The Combo Update will replace this kext. Hope this ...
Snow Leopard vs. Lion: Performance head-to-head
Image
Since we had the 27-inch iMac on hand, we thought we'd see if OS X Lion introduced any performance changes. Despite more than 250 new features, we aren't aware of any fundamental changes in Apple's new  OS X Lion operating system  that would affect performance after upgrading. It still offers 64-bit processing, and with Apple's tight control over  Mac  hardware components, there's no reason to anticipate a learning curve like Microsoft's partners had to deal with when Vista upended the  Windows driver  model. Still, the version of iTunes that ships with Lion supports 64-bit processing for the first time. We also wonder about any performance impact from Lion's new auto-versioning feature. There's also the question of how well third-party programs will make the transition in these early days, since they might still be awaiting optimization. With the  3.1GHz 27-inch iMac  on hand from our review this past spring, we took the opportunity to see if Lio...
