Problems updating to MacOS 15.5

I made sure to update OCLP before trying to update. It even sensed I was trying to download 15.5 and downloaded an additional update for what I think were for metal Intel Macs (I have a MacBook Pro 2015). Once 15.5 was downloaded and started to install, it got stuck so I powered it off and back on. It also got stuck on the reboot so I tried going into recovery mode. After I got the screen with the globe icon I selected my WiFi connection and put the password in. Now it's stuck on that screen as well with the globe icon on it and nothing else.

I do have another Mac I can make a bootable USB from. At this point I'd just like to wipe the computer and install 15.5 via the USB. If there's something else I can do before taking this step, then okay. But it seems like I'm out of options here, so any help would be most appreciated.

Mac stuck on recovery menu

Mac stuck on recovery menu

It’s me again. The installation went smoothly up until this step. I’ve been stuck on this since 2:00 AM 😕 I installed it but when it finished it booted back to this screen. I tried doing what the guide said and clicked on the grey disc icon when I rebooted it, but it went back to here. I’ve tried rebooting it again and again to no avail and I’ve tried just doing it again without clicking the drive icon but it just restarts when it’s either almost down or done and boots me back to this screen. I’ve tried turning it off and powering it back on to go to the log in page to see if it worked but it immediately booted me to this screen without me having to hold the options button. Any help would be appreciated!

Reinstallation question of macOS

I have a question about reinstalling Sequoia on the machine that has an existing OCLP sequoia installation

Question is is it OK to do it from within sequoia when it’s running or is it better to do it from a reboot?

Thank you it’s a MacBook Pro 2012 with the current CLP and 15.5 version of sequoia

Grazie

Installed macOS Sequoia fresh onto 12,1 (Macbook Pro, early 2015) - iCloud not working

During install, it kept saying the username or password may be wrong (they were not).

I skipped, and when I then try to login via System Settings, it shows "Verification Failed. Your Apple Account or password is incorrect." They are not incorrect.

Wi-Fi is connected just fine and again, this is a fully fresh install.

Any ideas?

[MacBook Pro 14, 3 Touchbar] T1 restoration after installing Sequoia

Hello awesome people, I have recently bought a Macbook Pro 14,3 (2017, i7, 15"). It has a touchbar. I want to install OCLP Sequoia. I want to do a clean install. But I hear clean install will render the touchbar unusable. There are some instruction in OCLP documentation but I am not super clear on this. Can someone give the steps so that I can have a clean install of Sequoia with touchbar working?

Unable to Connect to 2012 Mac Mini via SMB after updating to OCP 2.4.0 and macOS 13.7.6

Hi all, I've been running Ventura 13.x on my Late 2012 Mac mini for a while now, most recently on 13.7.5 with OCP 2.3.2.

Today I updated to OCP 2.4 and macOS 13.7.6.

However, since updating, I'm unable to connect to the machine via SMB. I've checked firewall settings and confirmed root patches are up to date, and I can connect to the machine via VNC/Apple Remote Desktop without issue, but I cannot file share.

Has anyone seen anything similar?

Thanks

EDIT: I can connect to other machines via SMB from this unit, it's only incoming connections that do not work.

MacBook Pro 8,3 (17 inch 2011) still has issues

I made another post about my machine having issues with OCLP, being very sluggish, but I’ll try to summarize everything more concisely here since I haven’t been able to fix any of my issues.

-Bought a 17 inch from 2011 for cheap

-It seems to not have been used at all in the past 15 years, it’s in almost out-of-the-box condition

-GPU works perfectly, still, but will be disabling with gSwitch

-ALL hardware is in perfectly working condition, actually - nothing to trigger the missing hardware throttling

-I upgraded Ram to 16gb recently, also an SSD of course and re-pasted it (didn’t fix anything)

-It behaves as if there was no graphics acceleration, even though transparency, GPU and built-in-display are all recognized - Opening Launchpad takes like 5 seconds and moving windows around is choppy

-Essentially what I’m seeing is this https://www.reddit.com/r/OpenCoreLegacyPatcher/comments/19f6wz5/my_macbook_pro_from_late_2011_i_think_i_very_slow/ (You can tell the guy has transparency enabled too so everything was installed properly)

-It does this with ALL unsupported macOS’s: Big Sur, Monterey, Ventura, Sonoma, Sequoia

-It strangely even did the same thing with Dosdude1’s Catalina Patcher for some reason, but runs High Sierra, Windows and Ubuntu perfectly fine and as it should

-YES, root patches have been applied multiple times, I’m not stupid please stop asking

-One time I installed Monterey and downgraded OCLP to 0.6.8 and that seemed to fix ALL my issues, it was working perfectly, but I decided to test the same trick with other macOS’s and it never worked again (Even returning to Monterey and following the same steps, I don’t know how or why)

-Ran SilentKnight and it said the EFI firmware was outdated so I updated it, but it also didn’t fix anything

-Currently on Ventura but likely will update to latest if I’m able to fix this

-Ran "top -o cpu" and WindowServer seems to be jumping to 140% usage (wtf) every time anything moves on the screen

-I just tried playing a YouTube video as-is and it froze the entire system

-I would dare saying that the machine is more responsive BEFORE applying root patches with zero graphics acceleration when nothing but the system is installed, this is NOT NORMAL

And as I said, this only happens when running OpenCore (and Catalina patcher for some reason), every other supported system is very happy with the hardware and snappy, I’m just not a Linux guy and I don’t like how the trackpad behaves with Bootcamp Drivers. I also cannot run the programs I need on High Sierra So that’s not an option either.

Any help very much appreciated. This is literally my dream laptop and I’m super depressed it’s not playing well with OCLP.

MBP2016 with Touchbar / OCLP 2.4.0 / macOS Sequoia 15.5

MBP2016 with Touchbar / OCLP 2.4.0 / macOS Sequoia 15.5

Recently purchased a used Macbook Pro 2016 with 16GB 256GB and didn’t know these have thermal issues… when overheating there’s a a darkening of the lcd where the dock is supposed to be..

Anyways, fresh installed Monterey 12.7.6 … then installed OCLP 2.4.0 direct to the drive, restarted and then Software Update detected and directly updated to Sequoia 15.5

Initially was laggy during the first few reboots until Root Patches were applied… used Onyx to do maintenance stuff, rebuild spotlight index…

To deal with the overheating issues I installed TG Pro (fan control) as well as Turbo Boost Switcher Pro to allow the CPU to stick to it’s native frequency and disable turbo boost…

So far everything works except things that need T2 chip like iPhone mirroring… graphic glitch with the wifi icon but negligible… still there’s a slight 1-3sec delay when you are in the System Settings… touchbar / touchID simply works!

Overall I’m grateful for the good work that OCLP guys has done helping us who can’t afford new macs.

Security updates disabled?

I know when I'm done installing I need to go to settings and disable automatic Mac OS updates. Do I also disable automatic security updates? That was glossed over in the vids and instructions I've seen. I have them disabled so far but hoping that wasn't necessary.

Second question: I made a good sequoia installer 3 months ago. I'm about to use it again but I know there has been and update and new patch in the meantime. Can I use it again and add the patch immediately, or is it worth it to make a new installer with the updated OCLP?

Looking for a reputable IT company with a reference

I also have an older generation Mac mini.

I would like to bring the newer version of macOS to this computer. But I don't trust myself to do it alone. In addition, I would also hand the whole thing over to someone who would install it and tell them where. This is perfect and safe

I'll just look for the right company

Thanks

Looking to update iMac 2011 to BigSur or higher, i7-2600 16GB RAM and soon a vBios flashed GTX 1070, what are some things I should expect and what are some things I should setup now?

Hello, I am very new to Mac modding and such, I only really got into this heap because my GF has an old iMac 2011 27" (12,2) and wants to start using it for some light work (Photoshop, Video Marketing, etc.) and late night movies again. I already upgraded the RAM from 4 > 16GB and nabbed an i7-2600, looking into an SSD and the GTX 1070 soon.

The problem begins with the program she wishes to use, she wishes mainly to use the Canva Pro App on her Mac but the latest version requires BigSur or newer, I know I can use OpenCoreLegacyPatcher to install BigSur or newer on the iMac however I am unsure how the 1070 I plan to add will fare as Nvidia hasn't made any MacOS drivers since High Sierra (current OS) but High Sierra is too old for many things, I cant even install latest version of Chrome or Firefox on it as is.

What are some things I should checkout/do prior to attempting to install a new OS on the iMac? What are some things I should expect? And how should I go about the 1070 and MacOS?

Anything and everything is appreciated,

Cheers! 🍻

USB Issues with Mac Pro 5.1 Sonoma 14.7.6 OCLP 2.4.0

Hi all, I'm having issues with the USB ports on my 2010 cMP 5.1. Around the time I upgraded to OCLP 2.4.0 (root patches are applied), all in-built USB ports have started acting strangely. They:

- Do not recognise connected mouse/keyboard/MIDI controllers in the USB tree or accept input.

- Do recognise and interact with USB thumb drives (3.0 and 2.0)

- Do provide power.

Internal USB 3.0 PCIe card works fine.

I am trying to figure out if this is a bug from OCLP's side, or a failed USB controller on the back plane board. I know that USB 1.1 support is provided by OCLP only, hence why I am thinking this is a bug in the latest OCLP version. Anyone experiencing something similar?

2013 MBA, error during booting, can’t get into Recovery

I’m trying to update a late 2013 MBA 6,2 from Big Sur. On trying to update to Sequoia, I got a message amounting to ”your machine cannot run this,” so I went for Monterey and the update eventually succeeded. I got greedy and tried to upgrade Monterey to Sonoma. Everything seemed to be fine. I had the Sonoma installer on a USB drive. At the reboot stage, I did not get the screen that the OCLP directions said I should get, although I was holding down the option key. Instead, I got the little gray box on the screen asking if I wanted to reboot, so I clicked yes. Now all I have is a black screen that briefly shows me a circle with a slash and directs me to apple startup help. Despite numerous tries at getting into Recovery (holding down the off/on button for 10 seconds to turn it off, then holding down the button to get into Recovery), I get nothing but the circle with a slash. In case it’s not obvious, I have no idea what I’m doing, so please be kind and explain like you would to a kindergartener. Is there anything I can do? I don’t care if I lose everything on the computer — I’d actually prefer that, because I’m trying to get it ready to give to a friend. Thanks for your kind consideration!

Edited to add, in case it makes any difference: I saw the messages telling people with 2013 MBAs and 4GB RAM to stick to Monterey or Ventura, but I have 8GB RAM.

Any os to run reliably on 2gb ram?

I have an old mb air 2010 with 2 GB ram. Monterey installed and ran, but opencore version was not the latest, so I let it update which broke some stuff, firstly got the disk hash error, then all the apps stopped opening they would just bounce in the launcher. Ventura installer did not even boot. Any hope for this machine or is it stuck at high sierra?

2014 Mac mini, 2.6 GHz i5, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD. Sequoia 15.5 slow and glitchy

I'm setting this Mac up for an elderly fellow who can't afford to buy a computer himself. He's only going to use it for browsing and email.

Right now he's using my 2009 MacBook Pro, with 8GB RAM, an SSD, and Sonoma. But someone gave me this 2014 Mac mini, which logic dictates should have better performance. I want to help the guy out.

After swapping out the rotational drive with an SSD, and using Internet Recovery to format & install Monterey:

  1. I downloaded & installed OCLP
  2. "Built and Install"
  3. "Create macOS Installer"
  4. Installed Sequoia
  5. "Post-Install Root Patch"

It runs, but it's unusably slow. As in, I move the mouse, and the on-screen pointer sits still for at least a second before jumping. And with nothing running but Safari, I saw the Dock quit itself.

Should I install Sonoma (or something older)?

Or maybe just an older version of Sequoia, like 15.4.1?

Instalar Sonoma en Macbook Pro mid 2012 i5 16Gb Ram

Buenas noches,

Took me ages to install this - it took a long time to install to the SSD. It runs ok. Upgraded RAM & just put 128gb SSD. I use it for work and it’s not a bad machine. The graphics are laggy at some times - but the laptop lasts around 3 hrs on charge :)

Ventura installed with OCLP – EFI wiped, OpenCore gone – how do I recover boot?

Hey everyone, I just installed macOS Ventura on my older Mac using OpenCore Legacy Patcher. Here's what I did:

Created the Ventura installer USB with OCLP

Booted from the USB stick and installed OpenCore only onto the internal disk (not on the USB stick)

Started the Ventura installation onto the same internal disk

Ventura install is running fine – but I just realized that it probably overwrites the EFI partition and now my Mac will have no OpenCore bootloader after the installation finishes

My USB stick does not have OpenCore installed, so I can't boot from that either

What’s the best way to recover from this once Ventura finishes installing?

  1. Can I prepare a bootable USB stick with OpenCore from Windows?

  2. Or do I absolutely need another Mac to fix this?

  3. Can someone walk me through what to do next to restore OpenCore on the EFI?

Thanks in advance – I feel like I kinda shot myself in the foot by not putting OpenCore on the USB. 😅

No wifi (15.5)

I just updated from 15.4.1 to 15.5 through the system settings. However i have no wifi. In the wifi tab in settings, ‘No networks’ shows under ‘Other networks’. Ive tried connecting to my hotspot (wich does show up) but even that doesnt seem to work.

Ive tried reverting and redoing root patches. However every time after root patching, it just says ‘return to main menu’ instead of the usual pop-up screen to reboot.

Under system reports > wifi , the status says ‘Not associated’

Ive tried everything i know but nothing has worked so far.

Im on a 15” 2015 macbook pro now running Sequoia 15.5 through oclp. I was initially on 15.4.1 and updated to 15.5 in the settings. I am using oclp 2.4.0
