Help going over checklist before setting up Hackintosh

Hello,

Hopefully this post doesn't violate any rules. I'm a bit new to this so I'll try my best to get back to all replies.

I need to install (dual boot) Mac OS X Sierra on my desktop PC for better program compatibility (mainly Adobe XD) and some Unix stuff. I have a 2011 MBA running some older version of OS X and two 32GB flash drives. I also have a brand new SSD for OS X and any files I'll want to use. At the end of this project, I want to have a wiped, clean MBA running Sierra, and my desktop running Sierra.

I have verified that the MBA will work with Sierra. My PC should too, it has a 6700k/16GB DDR4-3200/GBT-Z170 Gaming 5/1070.

I have read the tonymacx86 guide, but I still want to make sure that I'm doing everything efficiently. I would really appreciate someone verifying my checklist:

  1. Copy important files from MBA to USB 1
  2. Install OS X Sierra from the App Store
  3. Follow instructions to make bootable drive for USB 2
  4. Install Sierra on MBA
  5. Wipe MBA
  6. Install new SSD in PC
  7. Plug in USB 2, go to BIOS, install OS X (I've read that there are some issues with OS X wiping SSDs on re-installation, will this wipe the other SSD I won't put OS X on?)
  8. Set up OS X on PC
  9. Download Mac NVidia drivers for GTX 1070
  10. Under About, I should see Intel i7 6700k/16GB DDR4-3200 Memory/NVidia GTX 1070
  11. Install boot manager (not sure which one)

Is there anything I'm missing, or that I should be doing differently? Thanks so much!

Any way to customize the display hardware settings in mac OS sierra with VMware?

So I recently installed mac os sierra using Vmware workstation 12.5. everything works decently so far, the only issue is that everything is INCREDIBLY tiny (icons, text, the menu bar at the top, EVERYTHING). The issue is my laptop is the razer blade stealth which has a 2560x1440p screen, but its only a 12.5 inch screen.

I’m not 100% sure about this, but I think the reason everything is so tiny is because mac os thinks I’m on a 41 inch screen so it scales it to what it would look like on a 41 inch screen, instead of a 12 inch screen.

Is there any way I can make it so that vmware recognizes my laptop’s display to be like 13 inches or so? My only “fix” to this is to change my windows 10 native resolution to 1360x768 which will be stretched on a 2560x1440 screen (everything will look blurry, not sharp). When I go to apple > system preferences > display settings, I can’t change the scalability because there is only one option (the resolution my pc is currently at)

The photo’s im posting might look normal to you on your monitor, but on my 12.5 inch screen everything is tiny btw.

What is the state of Hackintosh on Ryzen?

Hi,

After watching two youtube videos about Hackontosh Ryzen builds ( Here and Here) I've started to wonder if building ryzen based machines became easier in the recent weeks.

As I plan to build my own PC with Ryzen 1700, ASRock Taichi and gtx 1080 I thought it would be fun to try dualboot macOS and Win10.

So how's the state of ryzen based builds Is it possible to do it with my configuration? Any tips?

A few questions for my build

Hello! I've been wanting to hackintosh for a long time. I think I'm finally ready, but I've got a few questions!

1) Is my build even compatible? https://pcpartpicker.com/user/lloyd094/saved/kyWMnQ

2) I currently have Windows 10 installed. I plan to install a second SSD for the osx side. Do I need to reinstall Windows? I'd rather not have to.

3) Is there anything further I should know or tips to acknowledge?

Thanks for the help!

Can I get in trouble by using the IOS from my macs in a hackintosh vm?

I have the El Capt ISO and I want to throw MacOS into a vm image and play a bit.

And then I got thinking. Is there any risk to my real Mac computers from me using this? Does Apple have a history of being able to punish the hackintosh and the originators of the ISO?

Thanks.

FireWire interface causing CPU PM to misbehave

I have a Saffire Pro 40 that connects via a firewire card. I recently used Toleda's fix to resolve my CPUs PM issues, but had my interface turned off while I was going through the process. Everything worked... until I rebooted with the interface running. PM stopped working, maxing out frequencies as though in turbo boost all the time. When I reboot without the interface, PM works properly again. Any ideas what the problem could be? The interface worked both before and after PM, just PM is acting up. Full disclosure, I have the drivers for onboard audio set up, but because I had the interface from the beginning I never tested them fully.

Stuck on black apple screen after sierra install!

Hey all, i built my first "hackintosh" back in 2012 and it has served me well in the past 5 years or so, but being stuck on an older OS has started to hold me back from using newer programs and hardware that i own, so upgrade it is!

Now it's been quite some time since i have last done this and all was going well. Sierra installed with no issues and i ran the multibeast set up... now when i restart and attempt to boot into Sierra i'm met with a black screen with a white apple logo and a loading bar that wont run.

My config; GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 (legacy bios) Intel i7-2700k (Sandy Bridge) EVGA GTX 660 FTW 16GB Kingston ram (4x 4gb sticks) 60GB SSD (boot drive) & 2TBHDD

It is my suspicion that it may be related to the graphics card, as i believe that may have been the problem during my first install many years ago. I have spent the last few hours following suggestions on older threads to no avail, so my last option was to post here. I have posted my Verbose log below if there is any information you may need i will be pleased to provide it for you. Thank you in advance and i hope we can get this running together!

No way to install El Capitan or Sierra/HSierra sucessfully (WARNING!!: Long..)

  1. Specs: Mobo:Asus P7H55 - legacy(maybe even that is the problem..) CPU: i5 660 RAM: 8GB GPU: nVidia 8500GT or 550Ti(i am still switching them) SATA HDD: 320GB Scorpio Black WD drive

  2. issue Hello, as you readed the title i have no way to install El Capitan, Sierra or High Sierra on that PC.. I am able to boot installer no problemoo but when it comes to installing there is a problem. i was able to install Mountain Lion and Mavericks from N**sh but Sierra from him does not work.. So i tried to make bootable vanilla Sierra usb with help of my dads macbook pro. i then installed clover on other usb drive in legacy. (now in the time i am typing this thing, i edited clover plist, disabled DropOEM as suggested on Discord Comunnity, changed SMBios to iMac11,3 and added DSDT patch to see my drive as internal(it shows as external....)) when i boot the clover usb it takes ~2.5minutes to get from ... *something entries ... then i see the usb i was not able to boot it(i was but i was getting no signal from gpu after getting to installer) then i realized that i was missing nv_disable=1. then after booting Sierra i got to recovery and erased drive, that worked no problemo but showed as external(as mentioned above) i got to installing.. somewhere in About 6mins remaining it was kernel panicking, every installing still kernel panicked. my dad had problems with his macbook after upgrading to High Sierra dev beta(sleep, gpu etc) so i had to use external drive to partition it to have 2+ partitions(Time Machine and Install OS X El Capitan).. so i taken the drive and connected it to pc, clover was showing the install el capitan partition and after booting it i again got to recovery. i again erased the drive and begin to install el capitan. it copyied on the drive succesfully but it was not showing in clover after reboot. i was browsing forums and someone was saying that after booting to install el capitan the installation should start aaaand after booting it was showing Install OS X then got to installing os x, but! i was happy that it somehow works, and KERNEL PANIC!!! i will post link to imgur album of kernel panics because i dont know which is which now xD.

3.HALP PLS... so after you read that english(i am slovak) mess please if you know why it kernel panics Please Help...

Unibeast macOS Sierra flash drive not appearing in bios

I’ve been trying to convert my netbook (Dell Inspiron 11 2168...?)into a hackintosh for some time now. I got a virtual machine running and used that to run unibeast. I first created my installation disk to be compatible with UEFI (since my laptop supports both uefi and bios). When I tried to run it from the uefi menu, it did not appear. I tried making it compatible with bios and switched my boot loader mode, but the disk still did not appear in my boot menu. Please help!

Few questions before pulling the plug

Hey everyone! Got a lot of valuable info already from this sub, but I want to ask a few precise questions before I actually delve into building a new PC. Basically the machine I want to build is going to serve me for (in order or priority): 1. Audio work (mostly composing in Ableton and Logic, max/msp and other stuff) 2. Photoshop 3. Unreal Engine for creative purposes, some other 3d apps 4. Gaming on Windows

Most important (as far as compatibility goes) components I chose so far without going into the details: i7-7700k GTX 1060/1070 (need to balance the budget before deciding) Gigabyte Gaming 5 z270 board 256 gb ssd drive for os x 240 gb ssd drive for windows 10 2tb drive for os x storage (all creative assets) possibly more storage, need to plan that further

Now for the questions: 1) Is it possibly worth it to go for an AMD gpu given native support? Are Pascal cards behaving fine and without major hiccups, especially in creative software? 2) How is Thunderbolt support? I can live without it right now, but it is important for me. Would also mean I wouldnt need to buy a firewire card since I already have a tb to fw adapter 3) dual boot. If I understand it well I just install os x and clover, unplug the drive, install windows, replug the drives and boot through clover from this point on? 4) Any experiences with the mobo I mentioned? I feel like its a good choice and it's tb chipset is supposed to be better from other makers. 5) how would it work if i wanted to assign an additional 1tb hdd for windows? Some creative software works better or is only avaiable under it, so it could be useful. Is it going to be as straightforward as i think - ie. just a plugged in drive formated under windows to a preferable format? 6) i plan to use the hackintosher guide, definitely not going to go for the bloated installs. It seem straightforward and well done, any voices on that? Do i need the infamous bluetooth adapter for hand-off etc in this case? Will a magic trackpad work without it?

Will propably update the post or something since I'm just killing time on an airport right now on a phone, so I might have omitted something.

thanks<3

Help me! macOS flash drive not appearing in bios

I’ve been trying to make a hackintosh out of this netbook I have (Dell Inspiron 11 2168?). I managed to get a virtual machine running on it with some shady virtual machine file I downloaded, and created a uefi disk of macOS Sierra with unibeast. I looked in my uefi, but the disk didn’t show up. I tried making the disk on unibeast with bios (because my motherboard supports both), and that didn’t appear in the bios either. I checked, and the boot files appear to be in the right places and clover is installed. What is going on?! (In case you couldn’t tell, this is my first attempt at a hackintosh)

Got older hardware through the Sierra 10.12.6 install process, but no luck with old Nvidia GT220 video card. Only getting generic graphics.

Specs:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500, 2.9 ghz

Motherboard: Gigabyte EP45-UD3L ATX LGA775 (BIOS)

Video: Nvidia GeForce GT220 <---only getting generic graphics

Audio: Realtek ALC888 <---not recognized

Wifi dongle: Linksys WUSB600N <---not recognized

Drive: 2tb SATA

RAM: 8gb DDR2

I've tried running with and without nvidia inject, tried a couple different versions of NVDAStartup.kext, tried telling Clover to use nvidia web drivers, all to no avail - still only getting generic graphics.

I thought it might be because I'm running the monitor through the VGA port and not DVI since the monitor I'm using has no DVI port, but to test this hypothesis, I hooked up another monitor that has DVI and it didn't change anything.

The last time I did a successful MacOS install on this machine, it was 10.6 or 10.7, and I've forgotten a hell of a lot of the basics, such as where relevant config.plist files are kept, how best to edit them, how best to install kext files. I installed TinkerTool and kextbeast, but kextbeast seems pretty clumsy and unclear.

Oh, it seems that the Clover USB key must be present at every boot of the MacOS now? Is there any way to remedy that inconvenience?

Thanks!
