Troubleshooting WiFi and Sound Issues on iMac 12.1 Hackintosh Running macOS 12.7.4

Hackintosh Guide: Restoring WiFi and Sound on iMac 12.1 Running macOS 12.7.4

If you're experiencing issues with WiFi and sound after updating your iMac 12.1 (Mid 2011) Hackintosh to macOS 12.7.4 Monterey and applying OCLP 1.3.0 root patches, here are some troubleshooting steps to help you resolve these issues:

  1. Check EFI Configuration:

    • Ensure that your EFI configuration is correctly set up for macOS Monterey 12.7.4.
    • Verify that the necessary kexts (kernel extensions) for WiFi and sound are included in the EFI folder (/EFI/CLOVER/kexts).
  2. WiFi Troubleshooting:

    • Check if the WiFi card is recognized in the System Information (Apple menu > About This Mac > System Report > Wi-Fi).
    • If the WiFi card is not recognized, verify that the correct kexts for your WiFi card model are installed in the EFI folder.
    • Consider using compatible kexts such as AirportBrcmFixup.kext or alternative WiFi kexts recommended for Monterey.
  3. Sound Troubleshooting:

    • Check if the sound card is recognized in the System Information (Apple menu > About This Mac > System Report > Audio).
    • Verify that the correct audio kexts such as AppleALC.kext or VoodooHDA.kext are installed in the EFI folder.
    • Ensure that the audio layout ID is correctly set in the config.plist file.
  4. Rebuild Prelinked Kernel:

    • After making any changes to your EFI configuration or installing kexts, rebuild the prelinked kernel cache.
    • Use a tool like Hackintool or run the Terminal command sudo kextcache -i / to rebuild the cache.
  5. Reset NVRAM:

    • Reset the NVRAM (non-volatile random-access memory) by restarting your iMac and immediately holding down Command + Option + P + R keys until you hear the startup chime for the second time.
    • This will reset various system settings, including sound and network configurations.
  6. Verify Root Patch Installation:

    • Double-check that the root patches from OCLP 1.3.0 were applied correctly.
    • Reapply the root patches if necessary, following the instructions provided by the OCLP tool.
  7. Community Support:

    • Seek assistance from the Hackintosh community forums or Discord channels for further troubleshooting assistance.
    • Other users may have encountered similar issues and can provide additional guidance or solutions specific to your hardware configuration.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the WiFi and sound issues on your iMac 12.1 Hackintosh running macOS 12.7.4 Monterey. If you continue to experience problems, don't hesitate to reach out for further assistance.

No more WiFi (OCLP1.3.0, iMac 12.1, macOS 12.7.4)

My iMac 12.1 (Mid2011, only upgrade: 32G RAM) ran just fine with Monterey until yesterday, when I ran Apple's update to Monterey 12.7.4).

After reboot it was REALLY laggy, and I installed the root patches - noticing that I didn't have WiFi. Unfortunately, after the root patches (OCLP 1.3.0) I can turn WiFi on and off, but no networks are listed, and I cannot join manually (through "Other").

...just noticed - there's also no sound output (headphones icon in the menu bar)...

Almost seems like the root patches didn't catch...

Now what? Any hints?

Thanks, doc.
