A cautionary tale of how I bricked a HP

After successfully installing macOS Monterey on my Dell, I proceeded to install Big Sur on a HP. Things proceeded smoothly until a hang with an error

AppleKeyStore unexpected session / operation failed

similar to this post.

And so nothing I could do but a force reset.

Upon pressing the Power button again, there was no video (the screen just stayed dead black with a dreaded No Signal). The mouse and keyboard also no longer worked. Tried many things but nothing worked. The mainboard's LEDs were all normal.

So my conclusion was that I bricked the device. There was a well-known possibility for that: The device driver crashed (kernel panic) and so it wrote a log to the BIOS/UEFI flash memory. The PC's firmware was badly written so it had overwritten the crucial BIOS/UEFI data; resulting in a bricked device.

If you have any insight, please share.
