Another Clover -> OC success

Decided to spend the holiday break to finally learn OC. I had been stuck on 10.15.2 for a while as upgrades had failed via Clover (I think it was partly the iGPU plist issue), but I figured if I was going to have to edit everything again, I may as well take the time to learn OC. It actually took me much less time than I thought and the Dortania resources are excellent. I then successfully updated to 10.15.7 which is where I'm staying unless Big Sur gets full 6800 support, in which case I'll ditch my NV card.

Hardware:

  • i7 9700K
  • Asus Z390 Strix F
  • 32GB 3000 MHz DDR4
  • 980Ti (disabled via boot arg), using Intel UHD 630 iGPU
  • Intel ethernet (no wi-fi or bluetooth used)
  • I never use onboard sound so cannot comment there either

I changed my SMBIOS from Macmini8,1 in Clover to iMac19,1 since I read that the Minis have laptop CPUs which might affect things. It does seem a bit quicker to boot but otherwise there's not much difference.

I set my config.plist up from scratch following the guide, but I used my framebuffer arguments from the Clover plist since I'd already spent a lot of time doing that when I got my mobo initially. As Dortania says, I had to change the iGPU ID to prevent blackscreen when updating past 10.15.2. Other than that, I really didn't have to do much past what the standard guide says. I tested on a USB first, and once everything seemed good, I just overwrote the EFI partition on my boot drive with the EFI partition on the USB. Job done.
