Skylake, Mojave and opencore 0.6.0 ..... having a hell of a time

Asus Z170-A i5 - 6600K MSI RX580 8gb 16gb ram

I had an installation of High Sierra that worked for almost 2 years with clover and the beasts, I knew it was the lazy way, I knew it wasn't forever, and then it started acting weird. I figured I'd start from scratch with OC, started last week with 0.5.9 and didn't really get anywhere. I've spent the last 5 days trying with 0.6.0, and I'm not getting anywhere. I was getting a kernel panic after the OC boot menu. The last lines of my OC debug logs are always "OCSMC: SmcReadValue Key 4D535463 Size 1, OCSMC: SmcReadValue Key 4D534163 Size 2" I've used all of the latest versions of kexts.

I cleaned the NVRAM almost every time. I remade my usb installer almost every time. I started with prebuilt ACPI, just dumped my DSDT and made my own SSDT-EC-USBX and SSDT-PLUG, thinking maybe I was having troubles because I was lazy. Sanity checker says my config's are good. All my bios settings are consistent with the Dortania guide. I've made a bunch of trial and error changes to things like enablewriteunprotector, rebuildapplememorymap, and setupvirtualmap. I get a kernel panic after the OC boot menu, after choosing "Install macOS Mojave (External)". I HAVE managed to get past the apple logo, done the first part of the install, twice, maybe three times. When it reboots, after choosing install mac os from my APFS GUID clean formatted drive, panic. Everytime.

I'm using a kingston usb 2.0 thumbdrive, though I think my installer boot success only came from using a transcend 32gb USB 3.1 drive in one of the two usb 2.0 ports on the back. I'm leaning towards it being a USB port issue, but I've tried them all. "OC: Prelink injection USBInjectAll.kext () - Invalid Parameter" shows up in my logs, amongst other weird things.

Admittedly, I've been changing too many variables at a time to keep track of what is working, and I messed up accidentally remaking my USB drive that actually got me to the installer. I've followed the dortania guide to the letter, and made a bunch of departures from it based on googling the last lines of my logs when I've failed. I'm at a bit of a loss, but I'm going to keep trying. Other successes with skylake on similar mobo's haven't been much in terms of help. What seems to have worked for others hasn't worked for me. At what point should I lean towards exploring the possibility of hardware failure issues? I'll add my config, logs and any other supporting info in the comments. If anyone who has had success on a similar build could throw me a bone, I'd be super grateful. I've been stupid before, so it wouldn't be the first time, and I feel like I've been staring at the same things for days.
