MacOS Catalina 10.15.6 OpenCore Success

I’ve finally gotten MacOS Catalina 10.15.6 to install successfully on my rig. Here are the parts of my rig:

  • Mobo: AsRock B450M Pro
  • CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
  • Video: MSI 5500XT 8GB
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 16GB 2400MHZ
  • Disks: WD Blue 500GB 7200 RPM
  • SAMSUNG 850 PRO SSD
  • PSU: Corsair 750W Modular PSU

I installed the OS on a thumb drive, by partitioning it as a GUID Scheme.

-REALTEK LAN FIX-

Chances are you’ve hit the brick wall like I did. You can boot into the setup, but it will tell you that “You need an internet connection to install MacOS. ” Lucky for you, I know how to fix that error, and make the driver properly work on boot so your Ethernet adapter works for the setup. The only way I’ve found a workaround for requires you to edit the ‘Kext’ for the Realtek LAN driver so it boots properly during the setup. If you don’t do this last part before you boot, you won’t be able to install Catalina.

Here’s how it’s done: - Navigate to your “Driver” folder - Go into the Realtek LAN driver folder and find the .plist - Open the .plist file and scroll all the way down to the last bit of text (if you see “Network-Root” you’re looking at the right line) - Remove the text “Network” from “Network-Root” and just leave “Root” - Save the .plist file for the Realtek LAN driver - Back out into the OC folder (where your config.plist should be) - Open up your config.plist - Take a new OC Snapshot and a Clean OC Snapshot - Save the config.plist - Run the Sanity Checker tool to make sure everything is configured properly - Reboot into OpenCore

The onboard Ethernet for your mobo should be functioning for the setup. You can check if it’s working properly by using the “Network” tool built into the MacOS installer. If you see things being populated under the ethernet tab, your adapter is functioning and you can proceed with the setup.

If you would like pictures of it up and running after the setup, I am more than happy to post them.

If you would like to browse my EFI and see what I did, I’ll also be glad to upload the whole folder to Google Drive.
