This is my first build and I have to say it was an overwheling success. I've just spent the last couple days using my new daily driver with Catalina with a vanilla install. This thing is an absolute beast for developing with Docker environments and everything works. I was even able to use the Migration Assistant to transfer all of my data from my MacBook Pro to my new desktop. https://i.redd.it/ason8adjm3u31.jpg https://i.redd.it/vfxuw5pkm3u31.jpg https://i.redd.it/kvr0vl7mm3u31.png Reference Guides I followed:
As you can see from the reference's there is a common theme, the Gigabyte Z390 Designare mainboard. The Designare was my board of choice due to it having Thunderbolt 3 ports built in and lots of other's in the community having success with it. Hardware List:
BIOS Settings I followed PacPera's PacPera Build except for a few changes. Load the Optimized defaults and follow the BIOS settings from PacPera. For Kext, ACPI, and UEFI files download the linked EFI files from Pacpera and copy over his files noting any small diferences below. z390-designare-i9-9900k-rx-580 The only thing I changed in my build from PacPera's is installing with Catalina instead of Mojave. Kext All of these go in the "Other" folder so they are always loaded for all OSX versions. All very standard easy to find kexts...
drivers > UEFI I only selected these option right here during the clover-builder setup, just be sure that you are using the latest version available here:
ACPI > patched
Note, I havent actually tested any thunderbolt devices yet. Problems USB Installer corrupted screen I ran into an issue with the clover installer while installing Catalina several times while using the yellow (DAC Audio) USB ports on the mainboard. Switching the USB thumbdrive to a standard blue USB 3.0 or the red USB 3.1 ports didnt incounter the problem. [link] [comments] |
