Looking to make my first hackintosh, need some guidance before I pull the trigger on a new GPU.

Hello everyone. I've been considering building a new PC, as after four years I'm really starting to get that itch again. I've decided instead of blowing $1500 on another PC, I'd probably keep myself entertained for awhile by just installing Mojave on my current system.

I've checked various lists and I've found that all of my components worked at one point. I'm not sure how well they will work under Mojave however. My system is as follows:

  • Asus Maximus VII Hero motherboard

  • Intel i7-4790k

  • G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB model #: F3-1866C9D-16GXM

  • Asus ROG STRIX GTX 1080

I've also got a spare Samsung 960 EVO 256GB laying around that I'm looking to use solely for Mojave.

I'm aware that Mojave is not going to work with my Nvidia GPU, so I'm figuring for $200 I can add a Sapphire Pulse Radeon 580 8GB. From what I've read, this card should work OOTB.

My other option is to just use the integrated graphics on my CPU. I've read this should work, however I'm not sure how it will handled with switching between using the GTX 1080 and integrated graphics. Will it work without a BIOS setting? I know you can set the primary graphics device in BIOS and I'm worried that might be required every time I want to switch my OS. My monitor has a spare HDMI port so I'm hoping it's as easy as leaving my 1080 connected through DisplayPort and connecting my mobo output to the HDMI on my monitor.

I'm primarily a Linux user, but I occasionally boot into Windows 10 to play some games. I've found a couple guides for triple booting with MacOS, Windows, and Linux, but they seem to all want MacOS installed first. Is this going to actually matter?

Looking briefly, I've seen a lot of talk about Clover. I'm assuming this is a boot loader similar to grub. Should I be using Clover or can I just use grub? Either way, I already know how to hide grub so it would probably be easier to use Clover I imagine.

If anything, I'll probably try it initially with the integrated graphics, but I'm just wondering if I'm not making it hard on myself.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!
