Sleep on lid close causing panic and reboot

Sleep used to be 100% on this machine, but then i tried Catalina and it was too much of a beta for me. I redid Mojave with a reformat, reinstalled the needed kexts in L/E, reusing the good working DSDT from before since the EFI partition wasnt touched. I noticed things were wonky because after wake i'd get a notice that there was a panic and it wanted to send logs to Apple. When i woke it, it was always at the login page so i figured sleep was working but recently I connected over HDMI to a monitor, and noticed when the screen is closed, the entire laptop restarts, verbose boot displays a message that there was a panic, and it goes thru the bootup to the login page. Any ideas on what is causing my problems? Before the reformat, things were pretty rock solid.
