Notifications causing lag

Hi everyone,

So recently, I managed to create my second Hackintosh, and I just discovered an issue that I also had on my last one.

Essentially, this issue only happens while gaming, or at least from what I’ve noticed. Now before you freak out, the game I discovered this issue on was Minecraft, so nothing even remotely intensive. While playing at an average 250-350 FPS, I instantly drop to around 60 FPS when I receive a notification of any sort. As soon as the notification expires and goes off the screen, my FPS goes back up. What I’ve noticed as of my latest Hackintosh, is that when playing games like Fortnite, I can average around 100 FPS, and quickly go down to around 20-30 FPS when I receive a notification. But now, I actually have to minimize the game and dismiss the notification from Notification Center to stop the lag.

It really is a strange issue, and from my research, it appears extremely uncommon. I have an i5-8400 and a Sapphire Radeon RX580, so unless I configured something wrong, I don’t understand why this is happening. Maybe my GPU isn’t being properly used, and the overlay of a notification with the integrated graphics causes the lag? Is there a setting somewhere I have to set? Because the HDMI from the GPU works fine, so the connection the MB isn’t the issue.

I followed the regular Vanilla Guide and my Hackintosh works perfect besides this (audio, Ethernet, basically everything). That being said, the Guide didn’t include any sort of BIOS setting modifications, so my BIOS could potentially play a factor.

EDIT: I am currently experiencing this on macOS Mojave, but I also had this issue on macOS High Sierra and potentially macOS Sierra (can’t be exactly sure it was a while ago). But I am experiencing the same issue across two completely different PCs.

If anyone has any advice or recommendations, it would be highly appreciated.

Thanks, Cervinakuy
